throw up their hands and declare that nothing can be done and we must learn to settle for less if the problems in question affect ordinary average Americans. If OTOH the problems in question affect the continued well being of the 1% and/or their financial contributors, Republicans will trip all over themselves to make sure that they (the 1%) don't suffer any negative consequences and that they remain well-protected.

By being utterly ideological and irrational they have, ironically, painted themselves into a corner. If they deploy actual logic and reason and they're honest about it, what do they become?
