PIPA Support Collapses, and Here’s a Full List of the Senators Who Newly Oppose It

All the Hollywood money in the world isn't going to help you get reelected if your name is mud and the Internets hate you.

Yesterday was, it turns out, a good day: so far, 18 senators previously in favor of PIPA now oppose it, seven of whom were former co-sponsors of the act.

We already told you about the fact that Marco Rubio and a handful of other senators had changed their minds, but the list has gotten much longer.

It means that neither side is close to having a majority on the act. According to a whip count by OpenCongress, there are currently 35 supporters (including 34 co-sponsors), 18 opponents, and 12 more Senators leaning toward opposition. Interestingly, about 35 Senators have not committed to a position. Good fence-sitting, guys.

We'll keep this list up-to-date, but at the time of writing, the full list of new opponents reads (a "*" indicates that the senator was originally a co-sponsor):

Once you're bought, you're supposed to stay bought.

Somehow I'm sure they'll all be back on the dark side soon.

Appreciate the update. I was about to email Blunt when I saw the news of his withdrawing his co-sponsorship. I have email McCaskill as I can find nothing on her position. My Congressman has come out in opposition.

So there we go from my point of view.....

that big money is trying to keep the market tied to an old business model. It is an argument Rs would understand, I think, even when they turn a blind eye to censorship concerns. Why should I pay $15-$20 to buy a video when I can rent one on the internet for a small portion of this. Why should I pay large sums to cable and satellite companies when it is cheaper to pay subscriptions on the internet. Amazon Prime's annual fee is less than one month of a midsized satellite subscription package and you don't have to deal with ancillary equipment. There is more than one way to drive this nail into the coffin and accomplish the goal.

Also, Chris Dodd disgusted me to no end yesterday.
