Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

We are stuck in a political purgatory until we can take back the House.

We cannot raise taxes that need to be raised to fund the needs of our government. Republicans in control of the House of representatives is unnatural to the needs and wants of the American people.

The American people should simply hunker down and try to survive this alien takeover until we can change it at the next election or two. They will be difficult to dislodge because they have gerrymandered their way thru state legislatures to fix the boundaries of districts in ungodly fashion in order to guarantee seats in the US Congress.

It is all perfectly legal but we have to realize that this country is stuck for as long as this bunch of Republicans control the House of Representatives.

1. Agreed.

Is there a link that shows the gerrymandering that took place?

2. But the only way to win the House is to end this depression

Which won't happen until we win back the House.

A conundrum!

I think that we need an LBJ strategy to solve this dilemma... we need to make House Republicans feel horrific pain and utter devastation of their personal political ambitions until they behave.

We have the power. We need to use it.

3. I would agree but also...

We need an education campaign so people know why we cannot get anything done to put the country back on the right track.

4. It is Going to be a Very Long, Hard Fight to Get the House Back

A substantial majority DID vote Democratic in the House races, but they are so gerrymandered that the RAPEuglicans kept almost all their seats anyway. It will take the biggest Democratic landslide of all time to overturn this, since in some states the House delegation is more than 2/3 RAPEuglican, even with a Democratic majority!

6. The Dems might be able to work with enough of the middle of the road Pubs to isolate the teabags.

And what will we get?

8. I doubt it. Republican "moderates" tend to be less extreme on social issues than extremists, but...

they're all on the same page economically.

9. gerrymandering will probably make that impossible until post 2020 (assuming we get to redraw then!)

so it's not us--no amount of enthusiasm, work or dedication can overcome the trap the Repubs have us in re House districting.

10. At least the current situation shows the Reeps for what they are

If they were in the minority everywhere, it would be easier to whitewash themselves.

11. You'd think we could get at least

20 of the repubs to vote with us. There should be some that aren't holding on to Grover's pledge or tea people.
