2. There needs to be a way that companies have to underwrite that

To borrow an approach from the righwingers: "Why should MY hard-earning tax dollars pay to provide benefits for employees of giant profitable corporations ?"

Frankly, I think employer-provided health insurance is a bad idea, but as long as we avoid single-payer, then we need to make these hugely profitable companies step up and either pay people more or provide decent benefits.

And of course it's not just Wal-mart - my brother and SIL work for a huge retail conglomerate on an Army base, and they are held to "part-time" hours with low pay and no benefits. Even though my brother is a "manager" - the company even make managers work "part time" to avoid providing benefits.

6. I agree.

We need a single payer system to make sure everyone is covered. Small business would benefit by being able to compete better against the big chain stores.

I also agree that it's not just Walmart, but all of the big chain stores that are doing their best to lower wages and increase their profits. Look at Papa John's and the way they are treating their employees, it's simply a matter of putting more money in the CEO's pockets and providing less for the workers. It needs to stop.

4. "Externalizing costs" isn't that the biz phrase

for making taxpayers pay for what the company should pay for?

7. I get these pro Walmart emails

about how successful Walmart is and America would be better off if run like Walmart. I always respond that we ARE a Walmart nation and it's only working for the Waltons and the rest of the 1%.

9. sadly,

there are those that walk among us that think $8.00/hr is a great salary and as far as the benefits like healthcare, days off, vacations, etc shouldn't be provided.

They're the same ones that say "Unions had their time and aren't needed now".

Yeah, like company owners are going to give up a dime unless they're forced to.

10. WalMart can suck my balls. I wouldn't buy a cracker from that place.

Frankly, I pity anyone who works there, but I support their strike entirely. Shut the place down on Friday.
