One of the few states where Obama improved his performance over 2008: Mississippi

Obama took 43.55%, compared to to 43.0% in 2008.

Romney dropped .58% compared to McCain 4 years ago.

Higher black turnout? Did a few evangelicals stay home, unwilling to vote for a Mormon? Maybe some of our Magnolia state DUers could shed some light.

From Dave Leip's page: http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?year=2008&fips=28&f=0&off=0&elect=0

Note: he reverses the traditional party colors.

1. Sadly, because they cut back on exit polls, we'll never know...

In 2008, 33% of the voting population was black. We can't compare that to the '12 numbers because, of course, they decided to not do exit polls in a good number (mostly red) states.
