1. Watching now.

My Father told me about the dust storms.

His family lost everything, and picked cotton.

I heard to many depression stories.

3. Pretty good.

Good thing to make the show while the older people are still alive.

My Father has passed away.

4. Mine too

although they never left Kansas so did not pick cotton but they starved. The family photos I have of my father and his family as a child are nothing short of tragic. They hung in there, raised turkeys for a little while and worked odd jobs for a while until there was enough moisture and ground to farm again and enough grass to graze.

6. My Grandfather died in 1933 leaving my Father having to help feed the family.

They lived with family when possible.

I still have my Father's old shoe shinning kit he had when he was a little boy.

He would wash dishes or shine shoes to help out.

They lived in tents and cars picking cotton.

My Father went into the CCC's as soon as possible to support his mother and little sister.

He said he was always hungry until he went in to the CCC's.

He saw dust storms while in the CCC's, planted trees to help stop the wind.

My father always kept food in the house, lots of food.

7. Just wow.

I know my dad did not eat more than once a day because they told him they needed to feed his baby brother and his sister who would grow up and have babies. I don't think he owned a pair of shoes until he went to high school. They never had enough. It was hard, we are so lucky. So far anyway.

Still about 8 miles from where my father was when this happened and I hesitate to tell anyone how short we are on precipitation the last few years and how frightened I was when I saw the dust blowing across roads making it difficult to see this last summer. Worried about next year. You can be certain the corporate farmers and ranchers are not using good, land saving technique and with the last two years of so many days in the 100's it is very worrisome.

8. I started to watch it, but it was so depressing....

(no pun intended).... I'm recording it so I can watch it when I'm in a more "historic" mood. I switched to the American Music Awards.
