Pepsi now selling ‘fat-blocking soda

Pepsi Japan launched a new line of soda on Tuesday that it claims blocks the body's absorption of fat.
Pepsi Special is infused with indigestible dextrin, a synthetic dietary fiber. Even though dextrin has not been proven to have dietary benefits for humans, it has been successfully tested on rats. Which, apparently, is good enough for Pepsi and the Japanese government, which has formally backed the soda manufacturer's claims.

The Japanese Ministry of Health says products carrying its FOSHU label are "intended to be consumed for the maintenance/promotion of health or special health uses by people who wish to control health conditions, including blood pressure or blood cholesterol."

2. IIRC, any fat that is blocked from absorption is secreted from the anus in an oily sheen. n/t

14. That was my first thought. Remember Olean?

They used it to make potato chips a few years ago. Side effect was orange, oily stools that people had no bowel control over. Sounds like a good tradeoff.

20. Yes! That was them.

Remembered the nuclear waste they used to cook them, but not the brand name.

Never tried them - just couldn't.

3. Sorry, you drink soda, you're asking for it.

It's poison.

6. These kinds of products are always followed a few months later by

those lawyer's commercials saying "Have you or a loved one ingested Pepsi Special and later your stomach fell out? You might be entitled to a cash award!"

Remember those sneakers that were supposed to give you the ass of a 25 year old?

Yeah.

8. I wonder if someone in product development has a brother who is a liability lawyer.

"Hey, Johnny! Pepsi wants me to develop a new product for them. What kind of health problems should I create for you to litigate? Anal leakage? I can do that!"

15. I drink nothing but water - until 5PM

Then I have a beer.

Then I have another beer and glass of bourbon.

Next, a couple of Manhattans or Martinis (real ones - gin).

Then, a bottle or so of some good red wine with a few random shots of bourbon.

Mix in a few tokes of some local produce and I'm pretty much set.

21. Funny thing....

not once have I ever become nauseous from drinking.

Even back in my Heroin Years, while everyone else would do a jot and head straight for the bathroom, I was never nauseous.

Food poisoning, however, is another matter and I have suffered from that on too many occasions to count (I will eat anything).

23. I am not so sure this will be a big sell in Japan

Many of my friends there prefer to drink Green Tea drinks.. occasionally they have one of those novelty jelly drinks.. Beer, Sake.. but soda's seem to be off many of their lists. They have calpisu.. (which over here is called calpico.)

During the summer the big choice is mugicha

Which co-incidentally, I am having a mug of right now.
