500 Egyptian Activists Cross Into Gaza To Show Support

RAFAH, Egypt (AP) -- About 500 Egyptian activists have crossed into Gaza to deliver medical supplies and show support for Palestinians facing an Israeli offensive.

The visit indicates a new Egyptian policy toward to Gaza following the ouster of longtime leader Hosni Mubarak and the rise to power of Islamists.

Mubarak, Israel's longtime ally, had poor relations with Hamas and teamed up with Israel to blockade Gaza after the militant Hamas seized the territory in 2007.

2. Thank you for this post Purveyor,

I was completely unaware that Coptic Christians had their own Pope.
I am interested in religion and have done some reading about Copts (especially since the discovery of the Coptic papyrus fragment which refers to the wife of Christ) but have never read mention of the Coptic Pope.
I suppose the Coptic Pope doesn't have much influence outside of Egypt and that Roman Catholics have little interest in identifying and legitimizing rival hierarchies (and Protestants, of course, don't recognize Papists of any stripe as valid) so little is said about such character's existence.
I will go do some further reading about Coptic hierarchical structure.
Thanks again.
