How Much Time & Energy Is Wasted At DU Pushing Conspiracy Theories?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by HappyMe (a host of the General Discussion forum).

Seriously. The election's over. We WON! The forces of evil didn't prevail. The election WASN'T stolen pre-election as some had posted. Ohio wasn't stolen as were assured would be the case.

How about we take this week off from the election CTs and concentrate on the ridiculous, scientifically ignorant JFK CTs instead?

I swear, the Rs must get a kick out of the CT rants that pop up on DU.

1. Hide thread is your friend.

At the moment there are some itchy bits that need scratching. It's going to die down.
Well, except for those enamored of Alex Jones as opposed to the readers of Mother Jones.

Because we know, for certain, that absolutely no conspiracies happen in this country, past or present.

Despite the fact that almost the entire US government said there was?

7. just another reason to be thankful that Dems won

If the GOP won, it seemed as if around 80% or more of duers already had the tinfoil prepared and were going to cry a conspiracy and stolen election. That talk would have gone on for months too. Because obviously, it was impossible for us to lose fair and square.

The thinking process goes something like, ok, even though all the polls are close and have been for months, I can't accept Obama would lose! Everything must be fixed! I still see posts saying this today, that the gallup and all the polling was fixed.

Now I wouldn't want GD to be flooded with such but when I'm in the mood, I'll read them and sometimes make a comment or two. If not, I skip over them.

20. Who cares what the Rs think? Why do you think your post is going to have....

....any effect on what people post to DU?

If you don't like what you're reading, either ignore the thread, hide the thread, or find another board that doesn't participate in discussing so-called "conspiracy theories".

Good luck on that last point.

In regards to your rather insulting comment about the JFK assassination, have you ever read the 2007 deathbed confession of E. Howard Hunt? How about the findings of the House Select Committee on Assassinations (1975-1976)? I bet you also don't know that a 2003 Gallup poll reported that 75% of Americans believe JFK was killed as the result of a conspiracy.

LOL...I bet you actually believe Arlen Specter's "Single Bullet Theory", otherwise known as the "Magic Bullet Theory". Just how scientific was that major piece of Warren Commission fiction? Before you think I've just started looking at the JFK assassination, I've been reading everything I could find since the release of that great piece of fiction known as the Warren Commission Report in 1964.

22. I know quite a bit about the JFK assassination.

The HSCA supported the findings of the Warren Commission. They differed only in erroneously believing a 4th shot had been fired. That was disputed at the time and has been conclusively falsified since. The HSCA concluded in its 1979 report that:

Lee Harvey Oswald fired three shots at Kennedy. The second and third shots Oswald fired struck the President. The third shot he fired successfully killed the President.

The committee believed, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that neither the Soviet Government, Cuban Government, anti-Castro Cuban groups, national syndicate of organized crime, Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, nor the Central Intelligence Agency were involved in the assassination of Kennedy.

The HSCA agreed with the single bullet theory, but concluded that it occurred at a time point during the assassination that differed from any of the several time points the Warren Commission theorized it occurred. Those beliefs of the HSCA have since been falsified numerous times through scientific tests.

So what if 75% of Americans believe there was a conspiracy involved? They got their info from Oliver Stone's fiction. 90% of Americans once believed that Iraq had WMDs.

And of course I - like the HSCA - believe the single bullet fact because that's how it went down. It's a scientific fact. The trajectory of the bullet had to hit Connelly after hitting JFK. The bullet's trajectory aligns in a straight line from the TSBD window from where Oswald took the shot, through JFK and into Connelly. Simple physics at work here. No magic at all.

BTW - you do know that the entire "magic" part of that theory is based on having JFK and Connelly incorrectly seated in the limo, do you not? That's the entire basis for the "bullet turned in mid-air" bullshit. The CTists can't even get something as basic as the seating positions of the two men correct. Then, they go off and concoct easily debunked idiocies based on their obvious stupidities.

I doubt you've read the entire Warren Commission Report. I have no doubt you've read all of the idiotic conspiracy books on the subject.

BTW - have you read Bugliosi's book? I have. Makes an air-tight case supporting the WCR based on the science. I suggest you ignore the CTists who dismiss it and give it a read yourself. That is, if you can handle the truth.

Or, you can continue to live in your dream world, imagining that you are fighting the good fight to expose the evil conspirators.

25. And you are willingly and proudly ignorant on the facts in the case.

I like how you cite the HSCA as a foil to the WCR, but when I provide the truth - that the HSCA endorsed the WCR findings - you get flip.

I'll also assume that you've never bothered to actually read the WCR or Bugliosi's book on the subject. It's so much easier to type "LOL" than to do the actual research.

Clearly, you're not interested in facts.

Yep. We're done here.

I wish I could feel your kind of ignorance was a laughing matter.

24. I was glad they changed the TOS on nutty conspiracy theories when we came to DU3.

Some of the more extreme believers in goofy conspiracy theories didn't get the memo that the days of posting batshit crazy CT's about 9/11 or UFO's was over - or willfully ignored it - and were PPR'd as a result. Good riddance.

The smarter among them simply stay out of Creative Speculation, and try to find clever ways to get their conspiracy-mongering in up here in the big forums.

27. It's no conspiracy theory that Mitt and co. spread some pretty outrageous lies during the

campaign, this is akin to hacking peoples' minds and making them believe an alternative reality. I feel that hacking a person's mind is possibly more damaging than hacking the actual voting machine cuz it leaves permanent scars, permanent rifts between coworkers, family and friends.

Mind hacking should be a crime i.e. outright lying as seen in campaign ads should bring a penalty, freedom of speech is one thing, freedom to lie your ass off when a presidential election is at stake is entirely another.

Denigrating theories of conspiracy as the domain of fringe goofballs aids the authoritarian types who have done great damage to this country and gotten away with it.
