What is with the people making Obama-Hitler comparisons?

So I was out at the grocery store today and overheard two old men talking. One of them says something about 'all the similarities between Obama and Hitler', such as 'how Hitler went after young people'. I can only assume he was talking about the Hitler Youth, and how somehow there's a correlation between that and how young people voted for President Obama.

That was all I heard, but apparently this guy had a bunch of other comparisons.

Has anyone else heard of other talking points that somehow make Obama=Hitler?

Are people just stupid or what?

9. It's cynical people playing on other people's ignorance and fear

When you get down to the nuts and bolts of policy, most people are ignorant. I'll admit that I'm not the most savvy when it comes to such things either, but probably more so than your average voter.

People who are ignorant about politics are easily swayed to believe incredible things. Most Tea Party supporters are a case in point. They're working and middle class people for the most part whose interests lie with the Democrats, but look at the crap they believe in. When you don't have much of an idea of what's really going on to begin with, you might be tempted to believe someone who at least sounds like they do instead of investigating the matter for yourself from credible sources.

That was a pretty constant theme from the Left. Bush = Hitler. Just saying, we have short memories and should not put ourselves in the position of being called hypocrites.

Not that I didn't agree that the Bush gang resembled the old nazi regime to an extent!

Visualize something humorous, wave your wand, and say the incantation, "Riddikulous!"

These folks deserve only ridicule.

Like Joe Biden did to Paul Ryan in their debate. Joe laughed and laughed and laughed. "Riddikulous!" and Ryan disappeared in a cloud of smoke. He was barely seen on the campaign trail after that. Like a boggart in the closet, he was finished, powerless, only an apparition to laugh at. And ridicule.

it's like WTF? i mean most teabaggers are anti-gay (check), anti-choice (check), anti-any color but white (check), anti-regulation (check). and, it just so happens hitler was against the same things-he loved some of our industrialists and they loved him. some were even pen pals. i'd say our industrialists loved the business they were getting, but some actually loved his intolerant ideology.

obama=hitler? not even close.

21. The stupidity from people that make that comparison is an insult to human intelligence!

I once talked to someone who voted for Clinton, Gore, and Kerry, but started watching Fox News and voted for McCain and Romney this year. She was going on and on about how radical President Obama is. All I said was "Is Obama doing anything that is ANY different from what Clinton did or Kerry and Gore would have done." (I.E. Stimulus spending, Health care reform, etc). I mentioned that "Obamacare" is actually a watered down, "less radical" version of what Clinton wanted to do to the health care system in 1993. Their response was "I guess you're right"

by supporting the NDAA, and by using drones to kill enemies, including U.S. citizens outside the U.S.

Those actions make me uneasy, too, but I certainly don't see him as Hitler by any stretch of the imagination. That's just ridiculous.

37. and that's where i saw it in my home town

outside of the post office.

yes, i did make a comparison between little boots and hitler when he was in office. it was not just his family's business dealings with hitler; but using propaganda (lies) for preempting a war. and, his currying right wing religious fervor. the anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-labor, added with extreme nationalism; also the passing of the patriot act. no, little boots didn't send us to camps; however, torturing people and holding them indefinitely goes against international laws we helped create after WWII- there are some disturbing similarities. oh, and the power of business, any business over the will of most of the people.

I mean there are so many much more interesting dictators to blandly accuse your president of being similar to. Americans think that Hitler was the world's first and last asshole dictator (except for of course, current US presidents,) and can't seem to be fucking bothered to research

What, is it just that "Saparmurat Niyazov" is a hard name to say? If you're ging to pretend you know something about dictatorships, read up! learn enough to answer some trivial pursuit questions or the like. Give Hitler a damn rest; have you tried some Mussolini? or Franco?

The Lyndon LaRouche supporters are always out there with posters showing Obama with a Hitler 'stache.

I have to confess that I have to cross the street when I see those folks... my grampa was in one of Hitler's POW camps. He was at Stalag Luft I after the great escape. My grampa was a well-educated, liberal Vermont yankee who voted straight Dem.

If I get too close, I think I might punch one of those ignorant, childish LaRouche boosters in the throat. So I cross the street!

41. You probably have a point there.

There's this: A former Ron Paul aid who has a RW website called "The Libertarian Republican" (Is there such a thing?) is going on hiatus and handing the reins of his ten cent blog to a friend so he can start a personal revolution. How will he do this? He explains:

The end of liberty in America: Only course of action now is to fight back, electoral politics not working

<snip>

Express your hatred, shame, and outright disgust with anyone you know who voted Democrat

However, for me, I'm choosing another rather unique path; a personal boycott, if you will. Starting early this morning, I am going to un-friend every single individual on Facebook who voted for Obama, or I even suspect may have Democrat leanings. I will do the same in person. All family and friends, even close family and friends, who I know to be Democrats are hereby dead to me. I vow never to speak to them again for the rest of my life, or have any communications with them. They are in short, the enemies of liberty. They deserve nothing less than hatred and utter contempt.

I strongly urge all other libertarians to do the same. Are you married to someone who voted for Obama, have a girlfriend who voted 'O'. Divorce them. Break up with them without haste. Vow not to attend family functions, Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas for example, if there will be any family members in attendance who are Democrats.

Do you work for someone who voted for Obama? Quit your job. Co-workers who voted for Obama. Simply don't talk to them in the workplace, unless your boss instructs you too for work-related only purposes. Have clients who voted Democrat? Call them up this morning and tell them to take their business elsewhere.

Have a neighbor who votes for Obama? You could take a crap on their lawn. Then again, probably not a good idea since it would be technically illegal to do this. But you could have your dog take care of business. Not your fault if he just happens to choose that particular spot. And start your boycott of your Democrat friends and family today. Like this morning. First thing you can do, very easy, is to un-friend all Democrats from your Facebook account.

Boycott Business who accept Welfare payments

Thirdly, I believe we all need to express disgust with Obama and Democrats in public places. To some extent I already do this. Example:

When I'm at the Wal-mart or grocery story I typically pay with my debit card. On the pad it comes up, "EBT, Debit, Credit, Cash." I make it a point to say loudly to the check-out clerk, "EBT, what is that for?" She inevitably says, "it's government assistance." I respond, "Oh, you mean welfare? Great. I work for a living. I'm paying for my food with my own hard-earned dollars. And other people get their food for free." And I look around with disgust, making sure others in line have heard me.

I am going to step this up. I am going to do far more of this in my life. It's going to be my personal crusade. I hope other libertarians and conservatives will eventually join me.

What I plan to do this week, is to get yard signs made up, at my own expense, that read, "EBT is for Welfare Moochers." I will put the signs out on public property off of the right-of-way so it's entirely legal, in front of every convenience store or grocery store that has a sign out saying "EBT Accepted Here." I may even do some sign waving in front of these stores, holding up my "EBT is for Welfare Moochers," sign, and waving to passers-by.

If I meet a Democrat in my life from here on out, I will shun them immediately. I will spit on the ground in front of them, being careful not to spit in their general direction so that they can't charge me with some stupid little nuisance law. Then I'll tell them in no un-certain terms: "I do not associate with Democrats. You all are communist pigs, and I have nothing but utter disgust for you. Sir/Madam, you are scum of the earth." Then I'll turn and walk the other way.

Buttons. Boy, you can have a lot of fun with this. I plan to make up a bunch of buttons, and wear them around town, sayings like "Democrats are Communist Pigs," or "Welfare moochers steal from hard-working Americans," "Only Nazis support Seat Belt laws" or "No Smoking Ban: Nanny-Staters go Fuck Yourselves."

There are so many other nasty little things I plan to do against the communists and those who support them. Perhaps I'll keep Jim informed and he can report on my activities here at LR.

For now, off to my first assignment: Telling all my friends and family who voted for Obama to "fuck off, don't ever speak to me again you slimeball mother fuckers." Wish me luck!

35. Just Illiterate, Stupid and repeating stuff they HEAR but don't quite think out...

If they are looking for the most deadly dictators, Mao Zedong (estimated 40-70 Million dead) "bests" Hitler (estimated 12M dead) in sheer number of folks who died under his rule. It's not even remotely close.

Gee its hard to figure out where Obama lands between those two as deadly, but I am sure he'll make the top 10 dictators AFTER them right?

Let's not even consider the difference between a president and dictator. But I would love one of these nutjobs to explain how exactly Obama came to power under a typical dictator path (military junta, single-party state, etc.) and then how this happened:

"they change the entire political system to ensure that no one else will remove them from their charge, starting with prohibiting all sorts of opposing organizations or parties, until they eventually cancel free elections or they do held elections but start tampering the results so it appears that itís the peopleís will to remain in power"

That's just surface Wikipedia kinda stuff...but in the words of Obama "Please proceed, governor."

See it all the time. Ronald Reagan saved the world from annihilation from Soviets, Martians and Eskimos...while Bill Clinton set Bush up to invade Iraq.

Yes, yes...they spout this stuff amongst themselves and do it with a smile on their faces. Come to Ohio. You'll run into many people that fucked up, plus more.

Meanwhile, with all their big family values, you'll find most of them are working on their third marriages. No offense to anybody who's been married more than once, but understand what I'm referring to is coming from typical Republicans - living in glass houses while throwing stones.

See the You Tube video of Ohio Romney Rally on NewLeftMedia's channel. It's no joke. Also contains Meat Loaf's drunken wail fest.

39. Yes some of them are weapons grade stupid but yes, there is some "or what" too

I've got a friend who is on issue after issue, is American far left but is convinced through some perspective distortion that he is a right winger, and pretty deeply so. He thinks the Heritage Foundation is a liberal organization and that Obama is a Communist, slowed down by systemic resistance. Wants better safety nets. Better wages. More value and power for labor. Environmental regulation. Supports gay marriage. Doesn't want to be in the same room with the stuff but favors legal recreational marijuana. Money out of politics guy. Approaching anti-corporate. Pro gun control (which, I consider authoritarian and therefore rightist but most don't seem to see it that way).

Then again, he is pro empire do to a faith in American exceptionalism, though granting that will not always be the case and may already have already fallen from such a place. Reflexively anti-communist.

Goes and votes for Weird WiLIARd like a motherfucker. Far from stupid, understands very complex situations. Very well read. Distorted plumb out of reality at least in part by strange mislabeling, conpiracyish stuff, a lack of of breadth and depth of political dialog available beyond the individual level that limits thought and the terms to wade through, and poor grasp of the few label to act as anchor points to work through this stuff in present context.
