About Papa Johns in My Area of the Country.

Like many mid to large cities Cincinnati has probably 7-8 pizza franchises including Papa Johns. There is also a number of mom and pod pizzarias as well.

One area pizza restaurant, LaRosas has been around for almost 60 years. The owner is high profile as is two of his sons. Buddy is a Cincinnati legend and philanthropist. Although he doesn't live in a castle with 22 garages and a golf course, he nonetheless lives VERY comfortably. At nearly 90 he still actively involved with his business. The road to success is littered with pizza places that tried to gain a market share in Cincinnati including Godfathers, Shakeys and Noble Romans and Pizza Hut is hanging on.

Back on topic. Not one of these CEOs including Buddy Larosa has bitched about the results of the election and Obamacare except Mr. Papa John himself. With pizza such a competitive business I think you would be cutting your own throat to be bitching about the election results.

If Papa John thinks he will enhance his chances of gaining a market share in Cincinnati because of this he is kidding himself. Conservatives and Republicans as well as Liberals and Democrats in Cincinnati love Larosas pizza just like they love Casanos pizza an Dayton. I predict in the pizza wars Mr. Papa John may have shot himself in the foot.

1. You know I think people are willing to pay alittle more for health insurance. But

I don't like Papa Johns. Never did. My Italian mother's home made pizzas were great. I make my own. Why waste my money on bad piazzas.

10. agreed, I'd rather buy a

premade dough (cause I don't know how to make my own), toss it out, lay on my choice of toppings, and eat away.

I've been using Publix supermarkets dough, topping out with store bought sauce, chicken, pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, onions, garlic, oregano, cheeze(s) & whatever else I think might be good.

I can even cover the pie with another crust and make it like a sandwich.

screww that pj stuff.

11. You can also buy that Pillsburgy Dough Mix and make the dough very simple.

You be surprised what you can make out of that.

3. We're fortunate to have a few independent shops around - but I still long for Ledo's.

If you aren't familiar with Ledo's, they use a simple flour and water crust (really thin and sweet), load the pizza with toppings, and are reasonably priced - they also make them in rectangular pans cut into squares like I remember Fat Man's doing when I was four. No clue if Fat Man's is still around, but the pizza was good.

Unfortunately, we don't have a Ledo's around here, but there IS one in the town where my eldest goes to college.

4. If you're talking Adelphi, Maryland Ledo's, I don't think it's outside of MD.

Although there's Ledo's in Montgomery County, MD and other places around the state. It's my favorite also, love the sweet sauce and flaky crust.

I will have to admit the Montgomery Co. ones aren't really the same as the original in Adelphi, but still damn good.

6. There's one in Reston, VA and one in Frederick, MD. I've had it elsewhere...

... but can't remember at the moment. Oh, and the one in Westminster near my daughter's college. The stuff is just great. I've never been to the one in Adelphi, but I've been in Adelphi.

If I had the money, I'd open a Ledo's franchise here (and get a beer license for it - drives up traffic). There are a couple of under-serviced areas in this region, well, on the pizza front. For the most part, we're pretty well covered. Our current favorite recently expanded to include a bar with roughly 42 craft beers on tap at any given time - plus the regular bullshit piss-water like Bud.

Where in Montgomery County? I lived in Monkey Village for a year and a half when I was in jr. high (the school seems to have disappeared, as did the mall).

13. Poppa Is A Poopy Head

I ate PJ's once, I was shocked at how sweet the dough and sauce was. I figure he got this rich by adding more sugar to both as a cheap filler.
