"The Republican Party is now a regional rump party awaiting extinction."
Like death, taxes, and the sun rising in the east, there is nothing more certain after a presidential election than a swift and usually overwrought round of analysis and advice for the losers. So it is this year for Republicans. If you Google “Republicans Whigs,” and confine your search to the past week, you will find multiple pages dedicated to the proposition that demographic trends are waiting to overwhelm the Republican Party, which is now a regional rump party awaiting extinction. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/11/16/the_political_landscape_after_2012.html

1. They could survive -
|
if they choose to be more honestly moderate like the old days. That seems unlikely though.

2. I've been reading predictions of the GOP's imminent demise since 1974
|
Hasn't happened yet.
Wasn't it just a few years ago the Democrats were an increasingly regional party teetering on the edge of irrelevance? |

10. They just realized that the Demographic Cliff they've been heading toward is now only yards away.
|
They finally see it in front of them, and are almost powerless to change direction without enraging their racist base.
And they are frightened by it. You cannot win with only Angry Old White People voting for you, Romney just proved that truth. Look at all the current scrambling by Republicans away from Romney's anti-minority rhetoric, desperate to court the Hispanic vote. Romney's current ravings are fucking Jebbie's chances. |

9. If we worked hard and won and they screw us, just listen to Reid already,
|
I won't vote or support them again.

5. They demised in 2008 too.
|
Unfortunately their demise is taking a very long time and they keep winning elections on a more or less regular basis.

7. They Still Don't See It...
|
In their unhinged world President Obama didn't really win...it's a combination of "voter fraud", not enough xtians/conservatives showing up, ORCA getting beached, women, hispanics and blacks being bribed with "free stuff"...everything but the real cause: this corrupt, inept and STUPID (thank-you Gov. Jindall) party has disconnected from everyone except for older white males. Denial runs deep, anger is there as well yet acceptance is nowhere in sight.
While a caged animal...and a dangerous one...the rushpublicans face their own extinction if they can't modernize and pull their party off from the political abyss. Some, such as myself, question if they've fallen to fall to ever be revived or have any relevance. Last night David Frum stated that the "ice is cracking"...what he fails to notice is that ice is miles thick. It's gonna take a while... |

8. To be nationally viable again, they'll have to occupy about the same political ground as
|
Bill Clinton in the 90's. They'd throw up at that suggestion, I expect, which is why they're going to remain a regional, racist party until they just fizzle out. But it's true. Obama just proved that there's no room to his right in a national election.
I'd much prefer they return to sanity, as it would force the Democratic Party back to the left. |
