I don't think I could have put it better or more succinctly,

"Terrorized by the prospect of a complete takeover of the U.S. government by right-wing reactionaries—progressive Democrats swallowed their unhappiness with Barack Obama throughout the campaign. They gamely defended his policies on the economy, health care, budget priorities and other issues on which they felt betrayed in his first term.

We’ve now dodged the bullet of a Mitt Romney White House, so let’s get back to reality. Despite his campaign-trail populism, the president will continue the politics of accommodation to conservatives. Two of the three priorities he has set out for his next term are at the top of the GOP agenda: a “grand bargain” to cut government spending over the next 10 years and corporate tax reform that would cut rates—don’t hold your breath—and close loopholes. The third priority, rationalizing immigration law, is one of the few progressive ideas that also has the support of the Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable.

Moreover, his next term’s policy advisers will be the same—or come from the same Washington/Wall Street executive personnel pool—as his last term’s advisers. Indeed, from the White House perspective, the election vindicated their first-term performance."

The author is also right, it is time for liberals to start formulating their own agenda now.

1. "it is time for liberals to start formulating their own agenda "

And their own party, hopefully. And the sooner, the better.

4. Ah, so you are openly advocating for a third, albeit liberal, party?

Well, I'd say that's a TOS, but besides that, I'm surprised that you'd advocate that the Democratic party let loose of its boxed in liberal base. After all, even though they are reluctant votes, they are votes nonetheless.

Of course we know what you really want, party purity, everybody marching in lockstep, nobody complaining, and certainly no whiff of a truly liberal agenda of any size or scope.

But still the TOS violation is interesting.

6. If you wanna interpret it as "advocacy", then sobeit.

And I think the "liberal agenda" (whatever the hell that is) died it's own natural death with the complete decimation/implosion in the person of one Dr. Jill Stein, Green Party Candidate. You cheered that millions of people stayed away from the polls, and that both major parties needed to do some soul searching. Any advice, along those lines, for Dr. Stein and Gary Johnson?

OBAMA/BIDEN-2012!!!! ON TO 2016!!!!! DEMOCRATS ROCK!!!!

"0.03%"?

7. Yup, just wants the Turd Way to come away with the brand, the history (for continued snookering),

and most importantly the infrastructure and major party status.

Go remake the TeaPubliKlan party, Turd Way.

You know, dial back the godliness of rape, hating the hispanics, hating of the blacks, the subjection of the women, and the bashing of the gays and focus on not paying taxes, corporate power, pilfering all the wealth and resources, and generally taking power from the many and funneling it to the few. Maybe a pointless for profit war or two or curtail some civil liberties.
Maybe do a little authoritarian nannystate shit that turns a buck for somebody.

It is nice that they aren't howling, woman hating, gay cursing, racist theocrats but I'm not sure "not a fire-breathing, anti-science bigot" is a coherent political ideology.

14. Posts ranting about the "liberal agenda"

and advocating a third party. That's pretty telling.

15. Amazing who gets to give such rants,

Rants that are violations of the TOS even. Telling, very telling.

8. Yeah, who wants to win any more elections?

Much better to split the Dems into pieces, and let the GOP win.

It's about getting liberals out of the party.

How utterly surprising.

We need to do this, in order to see any progressive ideas get anywhere.

10. Nothing in the article about splitting into two parties,

Just the admonition that liberals need to mobilize their agenda and push it forward within the party structure. The only person mentioning that liberals should break off and form a third party is Tarheel Dem up above, which I'm surprised hasn't gotten hidden for a TOS violation, but hey

Obama is more progressive than Congress. Pushing Obama does nothing.
