Who else is nervous about Benghazi

Maybe I'm overreacting, but this thing has me nervous. I posted a thread the other day where my suggestion of Susan Rice resigning to take the heat off was roundly condemned. Ok, fine, I can accept that. But I don't want a major scandal to blow up right at the beginning of a second term! If there is nothing to it, then fine and dandy. But I'm not sure if something else is going on there, something that might turn out to do some political damage, and it is making me nervous. Anyone else nervous?

3. The Republicans are nervous because it threatens their power base,

that's why they were so anxious to get in front with their message/meme, practically while the event was still happening.

Thanks for the thread, quinnox.

57. yeah, i'm with you

too bad the repug concern wasn't as apparent when little boots was president on 9/11--and of course, we've got the "trifecta remarks" and catapulting his agenda after that devastating day. now if a democratic president would have acted so cocky, the repugs would be demanding a thorough investigation. and don't forget about our soldiers killed in lebanon under the repug god, reagan.

both incidents make benghazi look like a minor detail (not besmirching those who were killed). what it does show, however, is how many repugs were actually in the loop. i knew patreaus was a repug, loyal to the neo-cons, and wondered why did obama appoint him in his position. I could have found safer more qualified candidates for the position. and, did patreaus allow a right wing unthink tank reside in his afghanistan headquarters?

i see repug fingerprints all over this.

I don't think Rice should be nominated as SoS, but aside from that it's bunch of nothing.

Just chum for the RW.

8. The GOP have nothing so they have to make up some bull to make the president look bad.

I do not put it past them to go overboard and try some impeachment stunt, but that would backfire on them. It is fine to be nervous, but just remember they got nothing. If they had something we would have heard about it before the election.

13. What political damage can it do?

The election is over. We won. It can't affect the presidential race, and will be forgotten by the time the 2014 midterms roll around. Some Republican zealots may push for a ludicrous impeachment motion but, with a Democratic majority in the Senate, that would go nowhere as well.

Benghazi should now be seen for what it was -- a human tragedy and a bitter learning experience for future diplomatic security concerns, not as a manner for one side to score political points off the other.

Plus, as the end of the year approaches with mandatory spending cuts, and Boehner et al have favorability ratings below leukemia and rectal cancer, the people will grow weary of this charade and demand the Republicans get to work.

24. Are you beginning to be

swayed by the paranoia and suppositions of the rwnj's?

It was a tragedy, that's true, but who cares whether one person said it was planned and another said it was spontaneous, especially when different accounts were being published at the time? Does it change what happened?

The right-wing is desperate to make this tragedy make Obama look irresponsible and unfit to be President. They are making 4 American lives lost seem like the worst thing that has ever happened to America, never mind the 3000+ that were lost because Bush failed to follow a lead given to him before 9/11 ever happened. Did they put this much effort into finding out why Bush sat on his behind and allow that to happen? No, they didn't.

Even when we have been given the results of the investigation, as much as the CIA allows to be given, the rwnj's are still going to hold on to the belief that there was a cover-up, that everyone colluded in hiding this horrible act that makes Obama unfit to be our President and will move on to the next piece of news that they can find some reason to tie Obama to.

You are needlessly worrying about something that only the right seems to continue to hold on to.

33. Not now

The GOP may try to keep thumping the tub on this; but, I think that the worst is over. The GOP hand is about played out.

I doubt if the questions that interest me will ever be addressed:
1. Getting involved in Libya; whose idea was it? How did the resolution get through the Security Council?

2. What did Stevens do during the Libya action?

3. Was Stevens sent to Benghazi? If so, by whom? Did he go on his own?

4. Why did he go with such a small number of guards? Was a substantial guard force considered unnecessary or impolitic? If so, why?

I do not think that Congress will have any interest in those questions.

It will backfire horribly on them. Only the Fox Lemmings are captivated by a "story" that doesn't warrant any more "news cycles" than soldiers dieing in the "Green Zone" in Baghdad.

A much more alarming topic would be Afghans dressed in "friendly" military garb and turning on UN troops. The media really has their priorities screwed up on this one.

I actually think there should be full hearings before a joint session of Congress, PROVIDED RAPE-PUBLI-SCUM BUDGET CUTS TO CONSULAR SECURITY ARE MADE FRONT AND CENTER FIRST!

Otherwise, it's just political grandstanding as usual by a bunch of senile and treasonous scum.

Other then making the case for increased security needed for certain ambassadors in unstable areas, there really is nothing here. The conflict of intelligence between Rice and the CIA came because the CIA wanted to keep certain things confidential. There were still CIA people in Benghazi and their lives are in danger if they are outed. It is utter nonsense that Repubs want to use this in any way.
