Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Why are all the talking heads (and DU also) trying to fix the republican party?

It is their job to do that, not ours. In fact I would rather they not fix themselves, I kinda like it this way, but I always have had a mean streak.

1. They have been even less popular at times historically yet here they are, so I agree

let them fend for themselves.

2. I'd like to fix the Republican Party...

...like I would "fix" a pet.

And I don't mean "repair."

3. It's OK. All attempts to change the GOP will lead

to its further disintegration. That's a good thing.

6. I agree.

To the extent that hey have had power in the past--and that is a very great extent--it was by means of an unholy coalition of felonious financiers, flat-earthers and fraudsters. Any attempt to "remodel" will inevitably lead to a breaking apart of the elements. Consider, for example, the problem of trying to simultaneously appeal to underprivileged minorities and rabidly racist Tea Partiers. Or to modern women and the anti-choice crowd. Or to academics and scientists on the one hand, and Creationists and GW-denying energy corporations on the other.

There's no way.

4. I, for one, believe in a two-party system.

Like maybe Democrats & Greens.

Let the Republicans go fuck themselves.
