Religious zealots

Make no mistake......this is a rant.

What's with these people? My first wife passed away and I have moved on. But during the time she was sick, 3 couples baked pies, brought over food a cancer patient couldn't eat and one even weekly brought over flowers which was a no, no. Two couples tried to "convert her" to Jesus. Mind you, we were non practicing Roman Catholics. I finally had to tell these couples not to visit anymore....it was just too upsetting for both of us.

My point??????? Since the funeral, have I heard a peep from them?????? I think you know the answer........not a freaking word. They must move on from patient to patient and say they did the best they could.

The final insult was at work. A deeply religious person told me about 6 weeks after my wife died that one of the reasons she died was that I hadn't "prayed hard enough". To this day, I'm forced to tolerate that person professionally, but personally I ignore the person

Please, no sympathies for my loss.......when I wrote this it was just to express my frustration on the anniversary of my wife's passing. Rant over

PS. DU has been a great home for me.

1. It happens with zealots of all religions.

I know someone who lost parents in a terrible tragedy and was told something similar.

2. You know who is real by who shows up when times are tough for you.

When I help a friend, and they thank me, I say this

"We're friends, and I'd be a totally worthless piece of shit if I didn't help you, wouldn't I?"

True dat, non?

5. With all due respect...

My point??????? Since the funeral, have I heard a peep from them?????? I think you know the answer........not a freaking word.

Do you really find that surprising, considering that you apparently made it clear that every effort they made to help out was unwanted and even counterproductive, and that they were not welcome in your home?

6. No not really

One of the couples was the parents of my sons best friends. I served in the military with him , I expected better than lip service

10. But didn't you say above that you asked them not to visit anymore?

Don't get me wrong -- the attitude shown by a few of the people you mentioned was reprehensible. It just seemed to me that some of the people were operating out of the goodness of their hearts rather than from some ulterior motive. I know that, if I had tried to help (however ineffectually) in a similar situation, only to get told to go away, I might figure that message was intended permanently.

7. My wife's step mother told our niece she was going to hell because of her new belly ring.

The zealots like prayer groups and need attention, keep them at a distance.

11. There are good people in the world...

Then there are good doers. They are not really good people, they are just trying to get brownie points in heaven. It's not about helping people in need or have and sort of empathy, on the contrary they can't have empathy because they can't put themselves in another person's place. They are just doing it for themselves to cover the guilt of being unable to be real. And the satisfaction of making godly scout badges in heaven help them cope.

For the good doer, it all about themselves.
