But this is not going to end well. The IDF is mobilizing reserves.

6. no, it's not

I feel particularly sorry for the Gazans. However, since they failed to rein in their own damned hotheads, they're going to have to face Israel's hotheads.

I just wish something would happen over there to convince them all to keep their respective hotheads under control. Otherwise, this will just happen again and again.

9. Hotheads

Yup, until both sides reign them in.

You just summarized the crisis in a very good way.

Now better call and make sure my niece is following civil defense and not being a hot head of another type. In her case will remove some of the glamor though.

cooperation is the path to civility.

But since the Arm Dealers of the world continually whisper sweet nothings into the ears of the hottest heads, it will not happen.

18. Back in the real world

Some of us realize it's not because they are liked, but the piece of terrain is kind of strategic. We are there for the same reason Rome and Greece had military forces on the ground, and Persians, Hittites and Egyptians sent armies regularly.

3. "There's a lot of that about." ("Us and Them", Pink Floyd)

"Us And Them"

Us and Them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died
And the General sat, as the lines on the map
moved from side to side
Black and Blue
And who knows which is which and who is who
Up and Down
And in the end it's only round and round and round
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
the poster bearer cried
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside
Down and Out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about
With, without
And who'll deny that's what the fightings all about
Get out of the way, it's a busy day
And I've got things on my mind
For want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died

12. We seem to be a declining minority here who seem to even notice, much less care.

It's frightening to see the Group Think (assertion of falsehood, denial of reality) take this board over. Orwell called it Black-White, the ability to hold two plainly contradictory thoughts in one's head at the same time, and switch them around on command.

Maybe it's just a residue of the Election, but there has definitely been an increase in those who are indicating they just don't seem to care what the man behind the curtain does, so long as he's got a D after his name. Maybe, it's just emulation of the meme being pushed by Party organs and the club of Young Propagandist Wannabes pushing for a job in the second Administration.

28. Yup that is an interesting choice.

Nah I just exchanged propaganda with a fellow worker who was Palestinian. It was amazing at the parallels in it...so we both decided that quite brutally honest people up high had stakes in this conflict continuing. He had family in Gaza, me in Tel Aviv.

That was after working in Mexico City EMS and my boss partnering me with another Palestinian refugee. Months later he said, either you two would kill each other or realize you two are actually human.

Rockets and shells crisscrossed the skies over southern Israel and Gaza today as Palestinian militants continued rocket attacks on Israeli civilians and Israel hit what it called terror sites

Analysis: Israel's strike
on Gaza tests Egypt's resolve

Gaza Rocket Attacks Continue
Israel Extends Air Strikes on Gaza, Hamas Retaliates (second paragraph: At least three Israelis were killed in the southern town of Kiryat Malakhi by rocket fire this morning. These are the first Israeli deaths in this escalation. - old news, many more dead since then in gaza)

A BBC Arabic journalist whose baby was killed by shrapnel in Gaza has been speaking about his son's death.

Jihad Misharawi said his 11-month-old son Omar died after shrapnel hit the family home in Gaza.

Violence has been escalating across Gaza and southern Israel following the Israeli killing of Hamas' military chief on Wednesday, as Jon Donnison explains.

Did you ever consider posting a link to one of the many news stories regarding this? I mean, there may be additional information that would be useful to DUers about this. I mean, it's nice and all for you to post something, but there are multiple stories from multiple sources about this occurrence. It's usually considered normal to include a link to one of those, so we can all go and have a look.
