Mitt Romney Has Been The Most Openly Racist Prez Candidate In My Lifetime

...I haven't lived that long, I honestly thought this kind of overt racism on such a high profile level was at least suppressed if not just put into a deep dark closet.

1. Were you not around during the Reagan years?

I'm getting old. I'm sure we have DU'ers who are that young.

10. I remember Wallace, too

I remember being absolutely aghast that college kids were treating that old bastard as if he had anything of worth to say. I do believe he was the very beginning of the downward spiral into "conservatism." However, Reagan was the first major party, national, openly bigotted candidate.

17. No, first in modern times was Nixon

Nixon may never have voiced any racism but he fully permitted the Southern Strategy to go into effect, seeking support from Dixiecrats who were pissed at the Democrats for the Civil Rights Act.

27. Wallace started his tour of college campuses in 1966 or 1967

He was already pushing racist "conservatism" before Nixon ran in 1968.

5. At least they used dog whistles back then

I'm old enough to remember Nixon.

The atmosphere has become openly racist. In an older time, Romney wouldn't have been so obvious. You're right, though. It started with Reagan.

and as his final farewell he has disgraced himself by showing his true racist colors

26. Yes and no

Yes in that they're saying so much vicious and outright BS. No, in that it's kind of hard to feel it since I'm an aspie.

African Americans human beings until you were in your mid-30's.
