I've seriously started telling every rightie complaining about "giving illegals everything"
that they can relinquish their citizenship and start "getting everything" themselves.
Similar argument regarding welfare and unemployment. "If you're so sure they are getting a better deal, or that they are getting something for nothing, quit your job and join them. I am sure the American Market will be able to recover when you drop out of it".

but the problem, IMHO, is that Democrats have been terrible in their messaging over the past 30 years and in many of their policies. If you look at a $7.25 minimum wage, it should come as no surprise that working class whites vote for republicans who at least cut their taxes. They have allowed the right wing nuts like Limbaugh and creeps like Jim DeMint to paint the Democratic Party as the party that supports welfare and welfare only. The Dems never really pushed their message to the working class and the lower echelons of the middle class. I think Obama is very wise to address his economic message to the middle class...Democrats need to keep that up. They need to start talking about raising the minimum wage to a living wage...not all at once, but in, say, 3 increments. The minimum wage in Australia is $15.51 an hour and the Aussie dollar is pretty much on a par with our own.
I was able to convince my republican ex-husband to vote for Bill Nelson, Patrick Murphy and the 3 liberal state supreme court justices the GOP was trying to oust. (He voted for Romney because he was convinced Obama was going to win, so he felt less like a traitor LOL) But he has never been a racist and I think he was disturbed by what he was hearing. |
