What were your biggest election surprises?

1. Obama winning Florida.
2. The margins with which Romney and Flake won Arizona.
3. Shelly Berkely not getting elected to the senate in Nevada.
4. Heidi Heitkamp's election in North Dakota.
5. Steve King's re-election in Iowa.
6. The 4 for 4 sweep of marriage equality questions.
7. Mayor Janice Daniel's recall in Troy, MI.
8. Prop 30's passage in CA.
9. The speed at which Ohio was called for Obama. I expected the election to be called (with Colorado, Iowa and Nevada) before they were done with Ohio.
10.Significant Democratic gains in the Texas House of Representatives.

1. overall gains in the senate

not too much of a surprise by the week or two prior to the election, but for most of the year i'd been bracing for losing a seat or two.

2. Both contitutional amendments failing in MN.

One redefining marriage as man-woman only, one regarding onerous Voter ID requirements. I guess I'm not surprised that they failed, so much as surprised after polls suggesting they would pass over the summer. It pleases me that at the end of the day Minnesotans did their homework, learned more about the amendments, realized what kind of crap they were, and voted them down.

3. I thought we had a good chance at retaking the House.

The gerrymandering that won the House for the Rs never occurred to me.

I was very bullish on President Obama winning, and winning big. I started at least one thread pre-election on the length of Obama's coattails. His reelection was never in doubt for me. In fact, had he lost, i would have been as shell shocked as was Rmoney.

4. The AZ "wins" might be in jeopardy

since a third of the ballots there were provisional ballots and the counting will be very slow. A couple of districts have already gone from red to blue and more are likely to follow.

The rejection of all the screeching woman haters was stunning. I fully expected one or two to hold their seats.

I was also surprised and delighted that Florida went for Obama. Now if they'd only kick the GOP out of their own government, maybe they could clean the state up.

6. Don't know why the surprise in AZ.

Obama had no campaign here. I live in a very Democratic part of AZ (near ASU) and I saw no Obama yard signs at houses which had signs up for other Democratic candidates. Carmona ran a disastrous ad essentially video photo shopping the support of McCain and Kyl when everybody in the state knew they supported Flake. He was up in the polls before that ad and went down afterward.
