Jim Bakker Show (former PTL) is selling disaster prep kits

They're making money off of global climate change and peak oil without calling them as such, using the disasters as evidence of the apocalpyse.

Jim Bakker has another wife who appears as, um, challenged as Tammy Faye (though probably much brighter than Jim), and they have a dreadful, dreadful (faux) "Christian" TV show on TCT, hosted out of a garish Main Street mall-type open restaurant stage in Branson, Missouri.

So occasionally I'll get taken in by the entertainment value. I went to the PTL Heritage USA amusement park when I was 20 and rode the Jesus Train. I'm not as mocking today, but really, I grew up watching Jim and Tammy Faye while my parents riffed on them.

They've got a Rabbi on there and another speaker who's advocating "getting radical" in reaction to the election and bringing up swords and war and "end times."

In addition to seeming to advocate open insurrection (thought I doubt their silver-haired audience is going to be the ones to go out and act on it), they're selling "food/fire/filter" kits. I went to their web site and they're selling the whole freeze-dried disaster prep kits (up to thousands of dollars). They're also selling gas-less generators because "all hell will break use" and "they'll shoot people to keep control." It's clear they're arguing this is necessary to their viewers because the apocalypse/end times are coming.

Their show is vile--a month ago they had formerly trafficked Russian teenage girls on who performed a Christian "dance" for the audience while the minister hugged every one of them reallly tightly. They referred to the girls as "former orphans." My daughter said to me, Mom, how can someone be a "former" orphan?

3. Maybe they're better than MRE's

All that peanut butter! During the next global disaster, I am going to be better prepared. No more MRE's for me.

Maybe they're worth the extra bucks. After all, if Jesus endorses them...

4. Hey, you got to give it to him. He knows how to milk his people!

And he still makes more money than you or I by never underestimating the stupidity of his followers. The guy is amazing! A true reality show! We could learn from him.

6. Dunno what this has to do with peak oil, but yeah, it's kinda disgusting to see this.

Kinda reminds me of what certain militia people used to pull back in the '90s........Y2K, anyone?

7. Jim Bakker IS a disaster

Right now, Jesus is up in Heaven goin' through the Bible saying, "where the fuck did I say 'build a water slide'?"
--Sam Kinison, speaking of The Reverend Jim Bakker

The only "disaster prep kit" you need for The Reverend Jim Bakker is a brick. To throw through your TV.

8. I Totally Agree

It is so sad that it just seemed like when Hurricane Sandy hit, Bakker was happy as a lark. This of course gave him a chance to sale his wares. I was doing some work on my computer while his program was on and this "Rabbi" was on as you mentioned in your post. He started making claims while promoting his Harbinger book. I did some checking on a lot of the things he said. Both Bakker and Cahn's fact were either incorrect or half truths and then to add insult to injury, using the Bible loosely jumping from one end of the book to the end trying to make a connection. It was so full of error I couldn't believe it.

I think what bothers me so much is the need for these guys to preach fear to make money. Okay I get the point. According to them the world is coming to an end...we get it. You would think though that after an election where most people want to see positive change in this world that they would be "Christian" and try to get all of us to work together for a solution instead of promoting fear and their pocket books. I swear, if they wonder why people hate Christianity, I can give one answer, The Jim Bakker Show. Is there anyone that can get that program off the air before it does more damage?
