Can a straight woman be in love with Rachel Maddow?

My friends and I were having this discussion last night. We're all straight, with guys. But some of us were like, "She's really cute." The others said that they'd go out with her brother.

I'll admit there was a bottle of Clos du Bois involved.

18. Liquor got a lot of people in trouble in college. BTW, welcome to DU.

I must admit, looks do matter. I size attractive men up all the time, not because I have feeling for them, but because they are competition for potential female mates. Maybe you're having some strange projection thing with Rachel, you like her features and may be projecting those into future children. You aren't strange, I do that sometimes, so do many other sane people that I know.

23. Thanks for the welcome.

Your explanation is actually pretty interesting. I do like her features. A friend of mine last night was saying that her features would be cuter on a guy, but I was actually not thinking that. It just hit me oddly and it wasn't just the vino. Usually when I look at women to size them up as competition, I'm looking at how much hotter they are than I am and feeling pretty miserable. I'm not looking at Rachel that way at all. That's why it got my attention.

81. The Roses are very good, but IMO a summer wine. We have a distaste for them in this country

due to bad Rose wines produced here that were too sweet. The Rosato of Italy and the Rosado of Spain, as well as the famous Rose of France, are beautiful.

Americans have got to get over their distaste for Rose wine. It is wonderful. Try the European varieties if you don't like the American ones.

the ability to discuss with someone, learn from someone has always been very appealing and arousing.

I used to date a conservative (long ago when they were reasonable people) and love to listen to him try and change my opinions. He didn't but I did have to think about the things he said a lot to see the fallacy.

Love the humor in many of the replies to the OP. Does anyone who has the fortitude to visit the big RW sites EVER see any humor there? My impression is that all they do is whine, bitch and insult the non-believers. The next four years will be hell for them and they richly (no pun) deserve it! BTW, I think Rachel is very very desirable, especially with her intelligence, much less her overall attractiveness. And I'm a 75-yr-old white geezer!

I had not seen a good friend of mine from high high school and college in awhile and she was suppose to attend my wedding in a few weeks. She called and and said she was in the area and let's hook up for dinner before the wedding . Sounded great to me.

Well she came out to me that day and and told me she had feelings for me a long time She came to accept it wasn't going to happen and I was into men (my kryptonite) but she couldn't attend my wedding I have never seen or heard from her since and I have tried contacting her. I loved her but couldn't be in love with her. She was one of my best friends

I still don't know how I could have handled it differently. I mean you are turned on by what turns you on and nothing can change that.

It's not an uncommon phenomenon for a heterosexual to develop a 'crush', so to speak, on a member of the same sex. It's related to charisma, personal magnetism, emotional sensitivity, and so on.

My man-crushes?

70. Sure, because she looks like Fred Savage from The Wonder Years

Just joking. I love Rachel. Have you seen her high school picture?

75. I've always seen Rachel Maddow as someone I'd enjoy

being around in person. I don't lust after her, though. I'd love to talk with her, however.

Count me in as one of the straight girls with a girl crush on Maddow. She's just so damn brilliant! Adore her

79. Yes. You are not "straight," "gay," "bi" or anything else. You are GiaGiovanni, dammit.

Labels are for suckers. Love whichever cutie pie you wanna love.

Sexuality is fluid. And Rachel Maddow is hot.

82. I think she is a very attractive woman, actually quite beautiful. But in terms of having her be a

sexual partner, no, as I am heterosexual and happily married so.

That does not diminish my attraction to her as a very intelligent woman who I very much respect. There are many women in my life that I love with all my heart and soul. Sexually, however, I do not.

85. Maybe there's a feminine equivalent for bromance? Womance? Fem-crush?

I have a special fondness for her, and her hard-sparkling love of explaining contexts for every report. I have no attraction for anything but her whole person, so I guess I'm considered a cultural lesbian. Anyway, as for your being in love with her, why not? Women's 'in love' state is so varied that I can totally endorse any way you want to define it for yourself.

87. I'm One Too!

I'm a straight woman. I love men. But I would definitely become a lesbian for Rachel Maddow!
