Kerry or Rice for Secretary of State for US Government. (Bias Confo: I'm for Kerry)

So tell me why I should want to support Rice?

I don't like Kerry, either...but, have some "inchie" of favor for him over Rice's Strident support of "BiBi." I don't like that so I don't want Rice in there...also she's seemed to try to trash Hillary and push for her OWN agenda.

Just saying....I'm sort of on the fence on this and wanted to hear good arguments ..Pro and Con..about either.

Love a Discussion!

8. Secretary of State Position to replace Hillary Clinton. (Two Choices so far: Kerry or Rice..

That's why I posted.

To Me...it was the choice between the two.

I said that I favored Kerry over Rice..I wanted to hear arguments "pro & con" from partisans who support each one because I wanted to be convinced as to why was Rice better than Kerry or the oppposite.

I just wanted to see if folks could discuss this for each candidate and sway me from Kerry for SOS as opposed to Donna Rice.

I don't really want to lose one of our own in the Senate, but let's be honest. John Kerry would be a PERFECT candidate for SOS.

That's why I posted...I'm "on the fence" but towards Kerry..... But, Rice does have a few views that makes me torn.

20. The major problem with your OP is that Kerry is not being considered for State.

He is being considered for Defense.

5. Rice's appointment would not give Scott Brown an opening to run for Senate again

right after we licked his ass to the curb.

Also, it would then be possible to say "Secretary of State Rice" without ing in my mouth.

7. I seem to recall Rice being hostile to Hillary during the 2008 primaries.

As a fan of Hillary Clinton, that has a bearing on my feelings about Rice. While I would hate to lose a Senate seat, Kerry's long time service and expertise would make him an excellent choice.

Bill and Hillary being hostile to Obama during primaries, we can all forgive and forget clearly. Now Hillary and Obama work well together, so why hold grudges?

34. As much as I'd hate to lose him from Senate...who better...it's his time...and I would hope

he'd go back to his roots from Vietnam and get his "spirit back." OTOH...Rice is seen as the future for our Party. I just have some kind of caution about her...

I am sure she would be fine, but I would stick with what I know. Kerry would have an easier time getting confirmed.

by Obama. I think he's a good fit. But, so many DU'ers love Donna Rice...(yet, I've not seen anything from her that makes me want to support her) that I am torn between the two.

10. I think some of us should avoid joining the

tidal wave of DUers who seem to be terrified of Scott Brown.

As to what is best for the country, I think that decision should be left up to President Obama and the individuals being considered for high-level positions.

I like Kerry--a lot. As a Kerrytraveler, I drove from CA to volunteer in Kerry's campaign in OH for 2 months. I think Kerry would make a great SoS. But I'll trust President Obama's judgment and support his decision, whatever it is.

21. I wold love to see Feingold considered for this position...

"As a fellow Harvard Law grad and Rhodes Scholar, Russ Feingold would be the perfect choice. As a Senator, he served for 18 years as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations committee and was Chairman of the African Subcommittee. He was also a member of the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Committee, which includes China, and the Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs Committee, which includes Egypt and the rest of North Africa. In short, Russ Feingold is an expert in the Arab Spring and Chinese politics.

His work has been especially prescient in regards to Egypt, as he was one of the few U.S. politicians to call for the end to its oppressive regime before anyone had to light themselves on fire to draw attention to the issue. In May 2010, he criticized the extension of emergency law in Egypt, which had been in place since 1981. He said:"

"Russ Feingold has also been one of the most outspoken critics of the Patriot Act and the erosion of our individual liberties. His new book, "While America Sleeps," will fully explain his strong opposition to warrantless wiretapping, secret law, and human rights abuses committed by our government since 9/11. Obama has not been able to institute his view for America's military because, as Commander-in-Chief, he's had the responsibility of concluding the wars he inherited, but I fully expect his second term to reflect his true views on America's role in the world.

Lastly, Feingold's message that he will not be running for "elective office" leaves plenty of room for him to be appointed Secretary of State. He's already promising to play a role in getting Obama reelected, "I was especially thinking of the need to reelect President Obama. I will be working to reelect him and hope to play a significant role in that effort." The Citizens United decision didn't discourage Russ Feingold. He's not going to sit on the sidelines as a law professor for much longer. Rather than bring progressive change to the State of Wisconsin, which has proven to be able to stand up for itself, he's going to help President Obama make progressive change globally."

26. True...I love Russ Feingold because he's been an incredible voice for my opinions ..But also Kucinic

has been a voice for much of us on the Left of the Dem Party. I was hoping Obama would finally LISTEN to those of us he didn't listen to in his First Four Years...and there were many of us who voted for HIM when our conscience said: VOTE THIRD PARTY.

He does owe us something...I would think...since he wants Dem Party to RULE?
