This Mornings Soledad O’Brien Show, Nails it! "Those people have to know"

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) of all people brings up the 'real' problem here.... Cantor was informed, but there was also a:

'fiduciary responsibility to tell the Chairman and the ranking member of both the House and Senate of the Intelligence Committee. And it looks like Dianne Feinstein was not informed... something is grossly wrong.

Cantor was the only person on the committee that was told and guess what, he didn't tell the Ranking Democratic Party Members.

Chaffetz on Petraeus: "It's a crime in the military;" something "grossly wrong"

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) responds to the latest developments in David Petraeus' affair and resignation that has widened to include General John Allen.

Rep. Chaffetz says, “You’re not going to notify all the Congress, but you do have a fiduciary responsibility to tell the Chairman and the ranking member of both the House and Senate of the Intelligence Committee. And if they were not informed, and it looks like Dianne Feinstein was not informed, then something is grossly wrong. Those people have to know.”

He continues, “It’s a crime in the military. And these are four stars. You don’t go to the bathroom without six people knowing where you’re going.”

2. Who was jackass congressman that was on with her this morning?

He was trying to blame the President by saying that he didn't trust that the President didn't know. O’Brien said, 'well Cantor knew, so why didn't he say anything to anyone?'

It made him look like a partisan fool.

3. IMO the real issue is that sex is one of the traditional ways to compromise security.

If an adversary nation does this with skill, sex is better than money because it's not such an obvious sell out.

It's not even a question of whether Petraeus actually did break security. The issue is he showed himself to be vulnerable to such exploitation.

That's simply not acceptable. If the head of the CIA can be exploited for information, the security of the US is vulnerable.

Sex as a weapon is even part of biblical tales rendered in art....Klimt's Judith with the head Holophernes,

8. That's speculative, if true it would be treason on a large scale.

I don't know that it's true.

I DO know that sex and security don't sleep together, or even frolic together under an office desk.

If the cast of characters in this mess are all Caucasian, Christian, conservative and heterosexual, it will play out to be a thing of friggin beauty.

> If the cast of characters in this mess are all Caucasian, Christian, conservative and heterosexual,

It would also be unusual, since most of the sex scandals involving "heterosexual Christian" repigs include minors, frequently of the same sex. If not minors, pretty much always of the same sex.

Cantor did not tell Feinstein. That is true and not speculation. His reasons for it are up for speculation, but Feinstein said on Sunday that she was not told.

35. Yes, speculative but after

Nixon and the Vietnamese in '68, and Ronnie Raygun and the Ayatollah in '80, and Romney going nuts over Benghazi before the bodies were cold, it is easy to believe they / he had a nefarious plan.

It's what they do.

4. According to Bob Woodward,

Patraeus had conducted his own thorough investigation of the Benghazi incident, and he was prepared to substantiate the administrations reports. What this looks like to me , is that rogue elements of the FBI along with Jill Kelly were trying to put pressure on Patraeus.

11. That is my suspicion

I think Cantor kept this to himself (+ a select few) and tried to push Petraeus into fudging some info that would lead to impeaching the President. That is why the President wasn't told, nor any Democrats.

Patraeus didn't play the game so they exposed him, forcing his resignation.

For the benefit of his immediate political interests. I hope the spotlight gets focused on Cantor's role...if he withheld from Feinstein, he ought to be the one impeached.

31. Absolutely! Look who the players are and what their agenda is. cantor is a ruthless partisan.

I think if there was anything in ANY of this that he thought he could use for his own political gain OR wrongney's, it would CERTAINLY have been used. I wonder if maybe he was hoping HE had the "October Surprise," but then it didn't pan out the way he was hoping. So we're only finding out about it now. AFTER the election.

I was just watching michael isikoff on MSNBC and he was practically drooling. He's a guy who seems to LOVE a sex scandal. For a LONG time after the Clinton administration was over, I suspected he couldn't find his way around any story unless there was a stained blue dress and a Clinton involved. Well, he's got himself another sex scandal, and his eyes were almost on fire on camera a few moments ago! This is really turning him on. Wonder what's in HIS closet?

....obfuscating, withholding information, telling half-truths It's when his lips or moving. Go on listening to him if you want. But, I, for one, leap over furniture, spilling drinks and scaring the cats half to death to get the remote control to switch channels when I see his face or hear his voice.

It was a criminal investigation, not an intelligence investigation.

Cantor was informed by a RW leak through Reichart. The House wasn't "informed" either.

If Cantor were a Dem the GOPigs would be screaming from every rooftop for his head.

Cantor at the least should be subpenaed and asked what he knows under oath. Then it should be determined if he is worthy of serving on any committee.

23. A very good

question by Soledad. She is doing her job finally. Chaffetz and Issa are also the cancers in Congress. Everything points to bringing down the President who they have not touched yet. Their efforts might be blowing up in their faces. I also served in the military. The military should never get involved on one side or another in politics. Some of these people that have access to these top Generals should also be questioned. 20,000 to 30,000 emails is confounding. Just what could they have been talking about? And I still want to know how Chris Stephen's personal diary came into the posession of an ex Bush neocon, which was given to CNN? The plot thickens.

30. Okay ...

That explains a curiously nagging statement made yesterday by a former cantor staffer, speaking on one of the Sunday Morning entertainment shows ...

In explaining cantor's actions, the former cantor staffer said, (something to the effect of): "I know cantor vetted his action through legal counsel because his office, when I was there, was almost obsessed with operating by the letter of the law."

This is all starting to make sense ... cantor and crew were hoping for some kind of "gotcha" event; but appears to have left his hand in the trap too long.

The search at Broadwells home was "consensual", I think she is talking. Her father said this is not what it seems, not just about an affair.
