There is a General Strike across Europe on November 14 against "austerity".

Last edited Wed Nov 14, 2012, 06:11 PM - Edit history (25)

Greece is nearly in revolution after parliament passed another enormous "austerity" bill (while 2,000 some government leaders and workers were found on a list of people who have stashed money out of the country). The Spanish people surrounded their parliament this October and demanded it step down!

I will keep this updated and will add livestream links of coverage. Expect StopCartel, Occupy World New Now, and others to bring the story.

1. We need a national day of support for Obama.

Just to show the pubs that we can stand our ground in support of what we voted for. !4th sounds good to me.

4. You know that the same pattern forced upon Europe is now showing up here in the US, correct?

Bankers run the planet, not politicians. Obama could demand the return of all bank and wall street bailout monies and take a large chunk out of the so-called US debt instead of =ever= letting anyone discuss putting social programs on the table for cuts. "austerity" is socialized theft: banks create debt, run a country into the ground, then the government demands citizens eat the loss through social and infrastructure cuts. NO NO NO!

I do demand Obama stand utterly and absolutely against the banksters and "austerity", however.

5. I agree with you...

but I think it started here and took them down. They just crashed deeper and haven't been able to get our momentum out.

The banksters the moguls and Wall Street are the economy killers of the world.

19. I thought they have paid back most of the bailout money

I thought I heard that the taxpayers made money on it. Or were they talking about the auto bailout?

22. That was likely the auto bailout. There were secret bailouts, and the Fed audit is highly troubling

no matter which set of numbers you take from it.

29. That is the exact opposite of what we need. We need a day of independent action against austerity.

2. K&R. I would like to see us join them. We voted against austerity here.

We voted for our taxes to go to reduce poverty, strengthen the middle class, rebuild our infrastructure and many other things besides sustaining large tax cuts for the richest corporations and individuals in the country.

18. Using social security and medicare monies to pay for the wall street bailout and Bush's wars

IS "austerity". It's here, now, just not under that name.

And by any name, it is socialization of theft, twice over. Steal our money once for wars and bailouts, then steal it again to "pay" for what the previous money should've gone to. A side-show shell game. Outright theft.

Do not forget that Bush toured the country claiming that Social Security was in "imminent danger" (same tagline they used for Iraq) and that we had to give it to Wall Street to keep it going. Now they're going to attempt to give it to Wall Street...again.

26. Keeping this kicked.

We need to be talking about why Democrats continue to validate Republican lies about the necessity for austerity.

We should not be budget slashing, and the ratios of cuts to revenue we are still hearing are unconscionable. Austerity is bad for economies and human beings.

and it will be our turn next.

If folks don't think the cuts to SS and Medicare will be a "bipartisan effort" then you haven't been paying attention.
