Will global warming be the death of coffee?

Uh oh. I donít mean to alarm anyone, but global warming could be responsible for more than just rising sea levels and extreme weather events.

Itís also slowly killing coffee.

A study by conservation group Kew suggests that global warming could lead to the extinction of wild Arabica coffee by 2080. The study uses computer modeling to hypothesize how coffee production will be impacted by climate change, running through possible scenarios and to determine the prevalence of bioclimatically suitable regions for coffee growth.

6. Have you tasted the weak-ass coffee they drink in the Bible Belt?

They don't care.

12. Yes, but...

when WE run out of OUR good, strong coffee, and their smug faces are still blathering to us that climate change is a hoax, know what's gonna happen?

People without their morning coffee are not amused.

2. If true, just kill me now.

Don't let me suffer. Or any of those within my arm's reach.

7. I'm more concerned about the death of (not by) chocolate.

i'll be 52 in february, and in my entire life, i've had a total of less than 1/2cup of coffee in all that time.

i REALLY can't stand the stuff...or it's putrid smell.

10. I don't think coffee will go extinct, but there is legitimate concern of what effects COULD happen.

13. Whether or not we can get coffee is going to be the least of our worries in another 30 or 40 years

if predictions about sea level rise and the effects of changing weather patterns on food production are anywhere near accurate, we're facing mass starvation and a dieoff of a significant percentage of the human species; coffee is pretty low on the list of things to be worried about.

14. I'll do shade-grown coffee in VA

'Course I'll have to plant different trees once it gets that warm.
