Peggy Noonan (Nov. 5): Romney will win FL and OH cuz I saw few Obama yard signs there
November 5, 2012. --Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal:
" There is no denying the Republicans have the passion now, the enthusiasm. The Democrats do not. Independents are breaking for Romney. And there’s the thing about the yard signs. In Florida a few weeks ago I saw Romney signs, not Obama ones. From Ohio I hear the same. From tony Northwest Washington, D.C., I hear the same." http://blogs.wsj.com/peggynoonan/2012/11/05/monday-morning/ Noonan can be mocked at her Twitter account @Peggynoonannyc

2. I'm surprised Noonan doesn't know a basic truth during
|
campaigns; signs don't vote.

6. LOL. I didn't see any in my small Chicago suburb.
|
The town went 80 percent for Obama, though.

7. This is how Rmoney's "Orca" app functioned
|
They would contact their operatives throughout a state and ask how the turnout and general mood was of the people in that area.
Conservative commentator Byron York wrote in the Washington Examiner following Romney's loss, "Early in the evening, one aide said that, as of 4 p.m., Orca still projected a Romney victory of somewhere between 290 and 300 electoral votes. Obviously that didn't happen. Later, another aide said Orca had pretty much crashed in the heat of the action. 'Somebody said Orca is lying on the beach with a harpoon in it,' said the aide."

8. My neighborhood was filled with Rmoney signs
|
Our city went for Obama, but slightly. Many of us didn't have Obama signs ... they went out as soon as they came into the campaign office.

9. Some tool who does business...
|
In Ohio told me the same thing. He said he does business all over the state and all he saw was Romney/Ryan signs and no Obama signs.

10. The Obama campaign made a conscious decision to not spend money on yard signs this year.
|
They put it into GOTV instead. Looks like a pretty darn good decision!

11. In my neighborhood in Ohio Obama signs were stolen routinely
|
Tea party morons made nightly raids. I lost three sets.
Only an east coast elitist equates passion with sign stealing. |

"And there's the thing about the yard signs"?
What lazy drivel! To say nothing of the reams of nonpartisan analyses that showed that in those instances in which pollsters were finding a Romney lean among independents, it was the result of recently registered Republicans dropping their party ID. As about so much else in this election, Peggy didn't bother to read the fine print. Oooh, numbers! Don't scare me and all the other low-information voters with your facts. Besides, Nate Silver is so geeky-looking and lacks the joy of a magic dolphin. How could he possibly know how to pick a winner? I'll take Orca any day of the week, though even that program seems too technocratic for a campaign that's obviously winning, what with all the yard signs. What a vapid, barely veneer-deep pundit. |
