Old Glory upside down at Clarkson (NY) post office

At first, Eric Ferguson thought the upside-down flag flying outside the Clarkson post office on Lake Road was an honest mistake.

But with the flag still broadcasting a distress signal five days after he first notified post office staff of the error, he isn’t so sure.

He first spotted the upside-down flag on Nov. 8 while pumping gasoline at a nearby gas station. He says he drove over to the post office and told a clerk what was going on.

“She said it would get fixed, and I said ‘OK,’ and left,” he said.

But the flag was still upside down when Ferguson drove by Friday afternoon.

“That time, I went inside and said ‘I don’t know if you remember me, but I’m a veteran and I really don’t appreciate that the flag is upside down again,” he said. “She said ‘OK, we’re so sorry, we will fix it.’ ”

But that apparently didn’t happen and on Saturday, when Ferguson drove by again, the flag was still upside down.

Haven't we heard enough from the post-election racists...? I guess not.

Clarkson is a small village northwest of Rochester, New York in a very red portion of Western New York

3. These people make my brain hurt sometimes

So there's a teabagger that works a government job at that post office that hates the government bad enough to fly the flag upside down.... over his place of employment.... which is government property, which I'm sure he hates because they hate all things government.....

Did I mention he works a government job? Why yes, I did...

AARRRGGGHHH!!

9. I have an uncle by marriage that was given everything on a silver spoon

when it came to $$ early on in his life.

Education paid for. Home paid for. He did work hard, but he did not give the same benefit of the doubt to those that came from humbler backgrounds...especially when their skin color wasn't the same as his.

Some people get the guaranteed for life jobs and still hate those around them that are different. Some get life handed to them on a silver platter and think the same thing.

The former should receive a reprimand and possible demotion. The latter will just shrug it off and go back to living with their millions in Belmont MA.

Doubt they are smart enough to know, though.

Hatch Act or some such??

13. Small town, doubt that it's a federal building

But if they're wearing Postal Service uniform or insignia, then the Hatch Act applies.

20. If it's leased, it isn't federal property

But the fact that she would be wearing Postal Service uniform or insignia would invoke the Hatch Act and make her subject to punishment for violation(s).

New York just went through a major disaster, with many fatalities.

15. Oh, cut it out with the rolling eyes

If it was just about the election, don't you think the USPS would have acted on it by now? But the state has just gone through one of its worst disasters in recent memory. And there is nothing in the article to indicate it is about the election, just an *insinuation*.

16. Do you really believe the USPS....

....is on board with allowing a post office to voice their displeasure with the storm response? In an area that as far as I can tell was not affected? Seriously?

....I'm pretty sure what this is about has nothing to do with the storm, nor does the USPS hierarchy know about it yet.

22. I think the PO would be more comfortable allowing a flag to be flown at half-staff

*in remembrance of people who died in a terrible storm that hit the state*, than merely allowing a local postmaster/mistress to express displeasure over election results.

But, seeing that it's upside down, what we could have here is a post office that the current Postmaster General has scheduled for closing. Then I could see a political connection.

But then again, the Post Office's worst enemy has been Darryl Issa, a Republican.

not upside down.

23. Well, you've got a point there

Maybe they are unclear of the concept? Who knows?
Or maybe, as I mentioned in a previous post, that PO is scheduled for closing?

At any rate, the article says that the reason is not clear at this time.
