Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Mon Nov 12, 2012, 04:13 PM

I want to thank all the businesses that have left their Romney signs up.

Many businesses around my area in VA still have their Romney signs proudly displayed. I find this to be in poor taste, but I'm thankful for it.

First, I get a smile as I know the owner is probably pissed.

Second, and more important, I know exactly where to NOT spend my hard earned money.

3. I'm always surprised

that businesses do this. It's beyond stupid to take a public political view when you are trying to bring customers into the store.

Unless your business is related to just one side of the political aisle you are much better off just keeping your mouth shut and the signs out of the windows.

I can think of a couple of times I've said fuck it, I'll go to the next liquor store or dry cleaners or even once roofing contractor because the moron had the idea that it would be a good idea to proselytize for Linda fucking McMahon.

4. Makes it easy to know where not to shop....

... and in 2004, one had a sign reading "Let Freedom Reign" (as the shrub wrote - it's "ring"). They'll never get my business. A pro GOP sign is the best way of knowing where to avoid spending money.

10. Yeah true, but luckily he's stayed out of the spotlight for the most part.

He can get as drunk as he wants as long as I don't have to see his mug on my TV.

7. i might go if it was a small indie type place with good reviews

unless the owners said some horrible things about Obama . i don't just mean saying they are upset about the election but racist and other bigoted crap.

but i might wear an obama shirt and make clear how excited i was about the election results.

8. You should send them postcards telling them you'll no longer be shopping at their stores and why.

15. Applebees got an email from me today in fact.

All of the crew from work get together at Applebees once a week fro a couple of cold ones. This week we'll start going somewhere else instead.

I made sure to let them know that.

13. The people who still have stickers on their cars...

I guess they have to go out and buy sticker remover.

Which helps the economy, so it's a win for everybody!

14. Here in my part of Virginia, too. I won't forget, though, which business had signs up & still do.

There was a new "Vein" medical office that had three huge freaking Repuke signs on his lawn. As I passed it, I thought, "Hmm, I was thinking about doing something about a few leg veins, but not in YOUR practice." His signs were GONE the day after the election.

A car wash in my county had a big "Take Back America" teabagger bus parked on their property. I was previously excited to have an automatic car wash closer to home, and in my county, but I'm not going there, either.
