This is a confidential document, last offer the president the White House made last year to Speaker Boehner to try to reach this $4 trillion grand bargain. And its long and its tedious and its got budget jargon in it. But what it shows is a willingness to cut all kinds of things, like TRICARE, which is the sacred health insurance program for the military, for military retirees; to cut Social Security; to cut Medicare. And there are some lines in there about, We want to get tax rates down, not only for individuals but for businesses. So Obama and the White House were willing to go quite far.
Yes, quite far indeed.
The Deal memo

On Medicare and tax rates:
On Medicare spending:
On Social Security and taxes:

(44,119 posts)What makes you think this is for real? Who or what is Nabors?
Do you still find Woodward credible? Personally I take what he says with a boulder of salt.

(1,446 posts)Nabors Draft probably replies to Rob Nabors who handled the President's legislative agenda and worked between him and Congress.
Woodward's name is at the top of each page from the fax machine I would guess.
