Classified documents found on Broadwell's computer

Don't know if this has been shared but it has more details about how the FBI tracked who sent the emails...including how they tracked the IP addresses to hotels where she was at when she sent the emails.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324073504578113460852395852.html

Top officials signed off on the interviews, which occurred in late September and October, just before the U.S. presidential election. During Ms. Broadwell's first interview in September, she admitted to the affair and turned over her computer, the officials said.

On her computer, investigators found classified documents, the U.S. officials said, a discovery that raised new concerns.

At Mr. Petraeus's interview in the week before the election, he also admitted the affair and said he hadn't provided the classified documents to Ms. Broadwell. Agents conducted a second interview with Ms. Broadwell on Nov. 2. She also said Mr. Petraeus wasn't the source of the documents.

That information helped resolve concerns that there was a national-security breach, although the source of the documents hadn't been determined. The officials offered no specifics about what was in the documents.

1. I would not be surprised if the republicans are somehow deeply involved.

She may have been used as a way to pry little details about Benghazi to use against the President.

2. I know people get pissed off about the conspiracy theories

But it could be Republicans are trying to set it up to impeach Obama. It's just a theory and I don't have proof.

3. So they take down a 4 star republican general?

The weaving of that part of the plot is going to be interesting even for creative speculators.

4. Well if someone found out about the affair, then they could have the leverage to do it

I'm not saying it happened, just that it is possible. The Republicans are slimeballs.

7. Naah. Obama didn't have the bubble on that--if anything, their "hero" the cheatin' retired general

did, and he fucked it up.

That's why they were beating the Benghazi drum in Sep, and stopped doing so rather abruptly in Oct. They knew THEIR dude had the blood on his hands.

10. it's going to be much bigger than that...

They expected to win. The really, really expected to win. This came out immediately after the election, so they're throwing the General to the wolves to hide something else.

They were incredibly careless ahead of the election, what with pix of Broadwell and Rove tweeted around back in June.

I think more likely they intended to use something from it to ruin President Obama. To destroy his legacy and absolutely destroy him as a lesson to "uppity nigras."

6. She's got trouble. Big trouble.

If he wasn't the source of the docs, who was? Was it work product from her reserve assignments?

And talk about STUPID!!!!! Even the lowliest Nahn Wun Wun terrist knows that the way you communicate illicitly is with ONE single Yahoo account, with a shared password. You draft a message, and you never send it. The person receiving the message logs into the same account, reads the message, and deletes it, substituting a new message in the draft folder. No emails are ever "sent."

GMail accounts--Jesus, that guy was STOOOOOOOPID.

They learned that Ms. Broadwell and Mr. Petraeus had set up private Gmail accounts to use for their communications, which included explicit details of a sexual nature, according to U.S. officials. But because Mr. Petraeus used a pseudonym, agents doing the monitoring didn't immediately uncover that he was the one communicating with Ms. Broadwell.

By late summer, after the monitoring of Ms. Broadwell's emails uncovered the link to Mr. Petraeus, prosecutors and agents alerted senior officials at FBI and the Justice Department, including Mr. Holder, U.S. officials say. The investigators never monitored Mr. Petraeus's email accounts, the officials say.

In September, prosecutors and agents began a legal analysis to determine whether there were any charges that could be brought. Among the discussions: whether to interview Ms. Broadwell, who was the focus of the criminal probe, and Mr. Petraeus.

16. They HAVE to know where she got the documents

If they found it on her computer, surely the FBI computer people could track where it came from...
And why the hell is this lady still free to go about her business/life if she had classified information on her computer?

Seems like she should be in custody with officials demanding to know who gave her the classified info.

17. Not true

She has a security clearance through her status as a reservist and her Reserve job.

Classified information can be tracked to where it came from IF procedures are followed. However, I could pull classified information off and post it anywhere and they would not be able to track it if I didn't properly document the data pull. They have limited who/where you can pull it off and it is harder than before 9/11 but there is still a need to move around classified data so lots of people still have access.

19. Oh sure--it could very well be "work product" for all we know.

She is a reservist. Her crime in that case would be mishandling. She could have been authorized to receive the material, she simply didn't take the proper care with it.

I routinely took work home during my career. I didn't take classified material home, though (I just did not want to go there--I do know people who did, though, and it was "OK" so long as they kept the shit right with them constantly, even in the bathroom, and in a locked case when they weren't accessing it), and when I was in jobs where I had to discuss classified information from my home, I had a STU-III phone in my house.

The Feebs have her computer, in any event--she turned it over to them awhile back.

9. So far, and it's still early, I don't see much that's sinister in terms of

the administration and timeline.

Time line

- Late summer (up to Sep 22), they determine a link to Petraeus but they're monitoring it
- In Sept, they review legal charges and who to interview
- Late Sept, first interview with Broadwell - she turns over her computer
- Week before the election, they interview Petraeus, who had been in Libya, and I presume at that point, ask Petraeus about the classified documents recently found on Broadwell's computer
- The FBI determines that at this point, there isn't enough to bring charges and advise Petraeus' boss 5pm, the day of the election.
- The evening of the election and the next day, Clapper, Petraeus' boss asks that Petraeus step down
- the following day, two days after the election, Obama is told and Petraeus resigns

If the FBI haven't found enough to bring charges at that point, how serious can this be with respect to the Obama admin?

I'm sure the Republicans can try to make something of it but it has to be tough because Petraeus was a consideration as a GOP candidate for president and no matter what they say about Obama, Petraeus is far more in the wrong on this.

14. Two important things to remember

1. The "official story" is a cover

2. Whatever is being said or done is to protect The Agency

18. Yep

I'm far from a conspiracist, but there is a lot more going on here than what we are being told.

There are lots of affairs going on at high levels that we will never hear about and the person will not be impacted. If it is not with a subordinate or the spouse of someone in the same (or close) unit, it usually is a non-issue.

20. I think so too--I also think she wanted an invite to something at McDill that Petraeus

was going to be attending, and when Jill Kelley, the Protocol/Social Director waved her off, she started making assumptions about Jill Kelley that were not in evidence.
