Patty Murray: If GOP Refuses All Tax Hikes, We’ll Let Them Go Up And Start Over

Patty Murray: If GOP Refuses All Tax Hikes, We’ll Let Them Go Up And Start Over

Appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week" Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), a member of the Democratic leadership, telegraphed her party's intentions if Republicans refuse to accept a tax increase on the wealthy.

"(T)o solve this problem, the wealthiest Americans have to pay their fair share too," she said. "If the Republicans will not agree with that, we will reach a point at the end of this year where all the tax cuts expire and we'll start over next year, and whatever we do will be a tax cut for whatever package we put together. That may be the way to get past this."

1. I am thinking Senator Murray should be in the driver's seat.

Maybe she already is.

2. good; various progressives have been recommending this all week; simply do nothing; but it 's crucia

to explain to the electorate that the cliff is just media hype, and that doing nothing is the best resonse to

4. I'm all for that even before the election (I assumed Obama re-elected)...

I was pissed off at House Repub and was thinking let them have it!
Let tax cut expire, then re-introduce part of Job Bills + tax cut for middle class again. Will see if the Repubs dare to be obstructionists this time.

6. we saw their reaction to standing firm on the wealthy cuts vs. the middle class cuts

We saw that in the fight over the payroll tax cut where the entire republican party folded. Sen. Murray is very correct.
