The President gave that tidbit of historical information just now in his V-Day speech. Gives a little historical perspective as to how close in time we are to the events that nearly shredded this union. Let's still fight to preserve it. It is worth the effort.

(2,888 posts)there was an article about that, though it mention more than one child of civil war veterans receiving VA benefits. By now, however, it could very well be down to only one. I'm sure there remain quite a few children of Spanish American War and World War I vets receiving benefits. And children of WWII vets will be receiving benefits well into the late 21st century.

Gettysburg Reunion
This one is supposedly video of confederate soldiers marching, taken by a French experimental photographer in 1863.
