16. I am sorry, but no I cannot...

My father was very closed-mouth about his time there. Most of what he would say is "It was goddamned COLD!

I never got much else out of him.

. . . . . you photoshopped away the names. I had to do that with my picture, too. It is on my dunagrees in the original.

41. Yeah, somebody warned me about that when I posted a military photo before

And recently I passed on the warning to one of our Afghan War vets when he posted an unedited photo.

How would we ever have been able to tell each other apart if the military hadn't issued us nametags?

4. K&R for that awesome photo. Oh, and for your service, of course. To all of you people, as a certain

thank-goodness-never-to-be-first-lady might call you--we owe you more than most of us will probably ever know.

8. UASREC Civilian, Madison Avenue Division, 1977 -1987

Worked in creative group at ad agency that did the Army's BE ALL YOU CAN BE campaign. Promoted from secretary to copywriter in 1982. Wrote print ads, a TV spot, and radio commercials (one of which won an award). Visited Forts Lewis and Benning, but, oddly, not USAREC headquarters in Ft. Sheridan.

Of course, we had saner commanders-in-chief back then.

Sonar Technician, United Sates Navy.

Served from 1982 to 1988, the height of the cold war. Was in Panama just before we captured General Noriega, but didn't actually see combat.

Very interesting line of work.

I just received his military records. Some of them were destroyed in a fire, but the rest was very interesting.
