Kristol: It Won’t ‘Kill The Country’ To Raise Taxes On Millionaires (video)

Conservative Weekly Standard columnist Bill Kirstol said it won't kill the country to raise taxes on millionaires during an appearance on "Fox News Sunday." Kristol said that after a bad night on Election Day, Republicans should reassess their positions and be open to new ideas.

"Don't scream and yell when one person says, 'you know what, it won't kill the country if we raise taxes a little bit on millionaires.' It really won't, I don't think," Kristol said.

Kristol continued, saying he doesn't understand why Republicans don't just take President Obama's offer to go ahead and extend the Bush tax cuts for everyone making under $250,000 per year while a larger deal is reached.

"Really? The Republican Party is going to fall on its sword to defend a bunch of millionaires, half of whom voted Democratic and half of whom live in Hollywood?," Kristol said.

1. 'Rational reasoning' are words not in the republican dictionary

Republican have to decide if their pledge to Norquist or their Oath of Office is supreme
If they decide that they owe Norquist then they are traitors
and should be brought up on charges

8. It would kill the GOP if they went along with it

When people are giving you billions of dollars specifically so you WON'T raise taxes on millionaires, one has to question why they would continue to do so if the GOP did.

9. Kristol knows damn well it's not all millionaires

...they are concerned about. They're concerned about only ten of them. Koch, the Walmarts, Adelson, etc. The guys who fund their specific campaigns.

13. They also know they can raise taxes on the "rich" without ever touching these people

If you raise the tax brackets on wage income, you don't affect investment income.

12. those Dems who voted for Obama and those that live in CA

have no problem with paying their fair share. They don't hide behind religion when it's convenient for them and they act the complete opposite of how they were commanded to to act.

It's those selfish, self-centered, self absorbed pseudo-xtians who cherry pick what parts of the bible they will follow that are the problem. They want to snatch food out of the mouths of poor people by cutting off social programs but be the first in line when FEMA rolls into town after a hurricane/tornado/flood with their hands out.

the problem millionares are the ones who own Papa John's pizza; or owns that coal plant; or that dude who built that obscene mansion or mittiot himself--the Dem voting/Hollywood millionares ain't got a problem with paying their fair share of the taxes.

23. Kristol says he doesn't beleive that raising taxes on the rich,

a little bit, won't hurt America. He knows perfectly well that it won't "hurt" America in anyway and it won't even hurt the rich. He also knows that raising taxes, a lot, on millionaires would be even better for America and it wouldn't kill the rich either.
They are so sure that none of us has read history or economic history and know what tax rates the rich used to pay, when this nation expected them to pay their share, 88% to 91%. The rich did not suffer under this "burden", in fact they and all Americans did better. The only way they had to avoid paying such high rates was to invest in American jobs, education, and infrastructure. They got returns on their investments, we had jobs, and we could afford to buy their products to fuel the capitalist economy.
Today the rich buy European castles, or build American McMansions, they buy jets rather than fly with the rabble, and they spend their money on propaganda to keep us in the dark.
The rules of the market place are not divine or natural, they are determined by the state. Its time for the state to recognize this role and do its job.

24. Notice the new talking point?

"Really? The Republican Party is going to fall on its sword to defend a bunch of millionaires, half of whom voted Democratic and half of whom live in Hollywood?," Kristol said.

They're recasting their heroes (the wealthy) as their enemies (Democratic voters and Hollywood liberals). Notice also that he referred to them as "Democratic voters" rather than "Democrat voters".

Are they preparing their base for a concession on taxing the wealthy?

This is becoming very interesting.

26. Kristol Apparently FORGOT:

his extremist GOP has a rather narrow, stupid agenda:

1.) keep taxes LOW for the uber-wealthy.

2.) whine about regulations "stifling business growth".

3.) whine about people "demanding stuff" from the government.

that's basically all they got at this point.
