Little bit of info from the election. SS and Medicare reform will be on the table

This group is ripe for it. Pitting one age group against another.

Instead, young voters matched their participation rate from 2008, with about 50 percent of eligible voters under 30 casting ballots. More importantly, they actually increased their share of the electorate, from 18 percent in 2008 to 19 percent this year, surpassing the proportion of voters over the age of 65 (17 percent, according to CNN exit polls).

Unlike other groups, young voters gave Obama an edge on handling the economy. Beyond that, their attitudes on social issues align much more closely with those of Obama and Democrats. For instance, a poll commissioned by the Harvard Institute of Politics showed that young voters preferred Obama over Romney on immigration reform (50 percent to 30 percent), health care policy (54 percent to 35 percent), and issues important to women (58 percent to 27 percent). A 2011 Pew Research Center poll last year found that 59 percent of Americans aged 18 to 30 support legalizing gay marriage.

1. So because yahoo says repugs looking at young people,

you think its appropriate to say, in HEADLINE at DU, that SS will be on the table???

2. Both have an effect on them, they are paying into both

I don't think you take anything off the table. You never say you are not going to discuss something.

Trying to turn them on the older group is about the only way the gop has to try to get to them.

11. They will be on the table.

Retirement age and a sliding scale for co-pays probably will be there. It's not appropriate or inappropriate, it's just an "is".

3. What are you trying to do?

SS and Medicare are not mentioned in the article at all. Looks like you are just trying to start an intergenerational fight on DU.

I unrec your unfounded drivel. I hope your sky falls on you.

4. Trying to pit them against the older demographic over SS and Medicare is about the only

way the gop has to try with them. The article says they side with the President on most everything.

7. You are trying to pit them against each other.

The article does not.

8. Since that wasn't typed in that article, no one could come to the conclusion that

that is something that could try to be done. ok

12. Oh please...

they have and will continue to have a problem with social issues. Do you know what is in the party platform? It is good for four more years.

Were you paying attention this week?

13. The problems with raising the age of SS

even my Republican agrees with this. To keep job growth it is counterproductive. All it does it force more Seniors to KEEP WORKING LONGER, eliminating younger people from being hired for those retiring. Listen to this one, younger people. The majority of Baby Boomers do not have big fat 401Ks, which didn't EXIST when they first started working, to retire at a younger age than full SS if they raise the age. Pensions have gone the way of horses and bayonets.

What if Seniors CANNOT physically work anymore? Not all jobs in this country are sitting at a desk. 70 year old police, fire firefighters, construction workers? If Grandma and Grandpa live in a Right to Work State they can be FIRED for any reason so their employers (like the Pappa John's of the country) can get younger workers making LESS MONEY. What do these Seniors do then? COLLECT UNEMPLOYMENT! Do the Repukes want MORE people on the government dole? They got a Catch 22 with that one. Don't payout SS, but Unemployment instead? Who is going to hire a 65 year old? RETRAIN for a new career at 65, because you MUST keep working?

Keep raising the age of SS until it is so old that nobody will be ALIVE to receive it? That the plan?
