The Richest Counties voted for Obama MYTH

Let's take look at one of those wealthy counties: Fairfield in CT.

Yes, Obama won it narrowly, but that's not because the rich people in rich towns voted for him: They voted overwhelmingly against him:

Romney won 2-1 in Greenwich. Same for Darien. In New Canaan, he did even better.

Fairfield County is the most unequal county in the country and predictably the fat cats voted for Romney overwhelmingly, but Bridgeport which is the largest city in the state went overwhelmingly for Obama. Bridgeport is poor and ethnically diverse and it largely why the President eked out a win in the county.

I haven't analyzed the other wealthy counties that the President won, but I will, and I'm betting that the same formula largely holds.

This is not to say that people of wealth didn't vote for the President. Of course quite a few did, but this wealthiest counties went for Obama meme that I've now seen twice here, doesn't bear scrutiny.

2. Point of fact...

The wealthiest county in Idaho voted for Obama. It was the ONLY county in Idaho that went for Obama.

Just wanted to throw that in the mix

3. One should also remember counties mean little in Conn.

There is no county government in Connecticut. Each of the 169 towns and cities are independent.

5. Clearly wealthy people in Fairfield County voted overwhelmingly for Romney

It is one of the wealthiest counties in the U.S., but Obama took it DESPITE the votes of the wealthy AGAINST it. And I have offered absolute proof of that. duh.

6. and CLEARLY the FACT remains that BARACK OBAMA CARRIED 8 OUT OF 10 of the wealthiest districts

in spite of your breathless, desperate assertion otherwise.

The FACTS are STILL the FACTS.

duh!

11. Yes, he won the wealthiest counties.

What I am pointing out is that implied in that is that he won because wealthy people voted for him. It's clear, that at least in Fairfield County that the President won despite the votes of the wealthiest residents- which went to rMoney.

double duh, sweetie.

18. And yet the FACT is that he carried the wealthiest counties, and your breathless

desperate diatribe regarding wealthy people in ONE of those counties does NOT make wealthy people voting for him a "MYTH". Of course, you would have to see that whining that setting the bar 'under 50' is "SHIT" while touting that setting the bar 'under 60' is cool is a complete show of utter hypocrisy. Duh! As is this SILLY SHIT you're doing right now. Duh!

But that won't stop you. Duh! It never has. Duh!

7. What are you talking about?

http://www.cnbc.com/id/49726054

Obama won 8 of the 10 wealthiest counties in the country.
Not a myth.

If your point is that the wealthiest people in those counties may not have voted for him, that's fine.
But he won those counties.

17. Same can be said of Santa Clara County

And not only is Santa Clara County wealthier, their tally for Obama was two percentage points higher than Marin.

10. Fairfax County and Loudoun County have a lot of wealthy liberals

Wealthy does not always equate to Republican...also, there is high first and second generation asian and latino immigrants in those areas

so I am not sure what your point is..

13. The point is that at least in one of those counties

that the implication that he won the majority of the votes of the wealthy is wrong.

16. You're not making sense...if you are earning less than $150K in those areas..

you can consider yourself poor...NOVA went blue last time too...and both counties have highest capita per head in country...

Rolls Royce parked at the Wholefoods...

12. Semantics. A fact is a fact. Also, the avg salary of those rich counties don't even pass $150k

Let alone $250K. So many knew they were safe under Obama's tax plan. And there are many rich Liberals as well.

15. It's not semantics. Implied in the claim is that wealthy people went for Obama

As I proved, at least in one of those counties, the votes of the wealthy went overwhelmingly to rMoney.

19. I live in a very affluent part of Portland, Oregon.

The entire campaign, I never saw even a single Romney yard sign or bumper sticker (and plenty of each for Obama). Obviously that doesn't tell me how people voted, and the county includes a wide range of income demographics, so that's no clue. But from what I can tell, my particular affluent area was strongly pro-Obama.

Of course, it is Portland...

20. There are plenty of rich Democrats....

..as well as Independents and ex-Republicans who are turned off by the GOP's extremism. Keep in mind, there's a difference between a rich Democrat like Steven Spielberg and rich Republicans like the Koch Brothers in terms of how they made their money.

But yes, many of the very richest people in the country still at least lean Republican.

21. Obama won Fairfield County by 11 points

Great research Sparky! Obama won Fairfield Ct by 11 points, not narrowly. Obama- 214,757 votes (55%), Romney - 172,238 votes (44.1%), Other- 3,616 votes (.09%). 3 out of the 10 wealthiest cities also voted for Obama. Total vote for the 10 wealthiest cities in Fairfield County was : Romney- 61,797 and Obama - 52,028. Which means that Romney won the ten richest cities 54% to 46% a narrower margin than Obama won the whole county by. Do some better research next time. http://www.courant.com/news/elections
