For Repubs saying only poor people voted Obama: Obama Wins 8 of 10 RICHEST countiesLast edited Fri Nov 9, 2012, 11:16 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2)
Next time you get an e-mail from a repub or someone tries to throw the same tired talking point at you, kindly direct them to the facts: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/obama-wins-8-10-wealthiest-154837437.html
--snap-- "In an election that often focused on debates about class warfare, President Barack Obama was favored over multimillionaire businessman Mitt Romney in eight of the nation's 10 wealthiest counties. And his margin of victory in all eight counties was greater than that of the national vote, in which Obama was leading by 50 percent to 48 percent with 97 percent of precincts reporting. The findings are based on a CNBC.com analysis of Census Bureau numbers on average annual household income from 2006-2011 and results from Tuesday's elections." - Yahoo Finance

1. Yes, I live in one of them - Fairfield County, CT
|
While Obama won the county 51-49 overall, he took my town by 62-38.

33. Exactly.
|
I grew up in New Canaan and most of my family is still in Ridgefield, Darien and New Canaan. Bridgeport is largely the reason that the county voted for Obama- not New Canaan or Greenwich or Darien.

34. I saw a break-down somewhere of town-by-town votes for the county...
|
and I was surprised at the number of small towns that actually did go for Obama. Greenwich didn't, but Fairfield and Westport did. If I recall correctly, so did Stamford, Westport, and Weston. I can't recall about Darien and New Canaan, and I'm fairly sure Ridgefield was in the Romney column. Many were very close - even Greenwich was not as heavily Romney as I expected. It was something like 58-42, while I expected 65-35.

5. There are larger numbers of low income families than rich income families.
|
What does this mean, repubs are going to have to come to us rather than this mean streak they are throwing our way if they intend on winning elections. It is more important for families to provide for their children than to listen to the likes of Todd Akin or Mitt Romney.

I voted for him even though I know he'll raise my taxes. Principles are more important than money for a lot of us.
Also, people with advanced degrees are more likely to be dems -- and more likely to be high income. |

31. OK. One more time: This is bullshit. Here's why:
|
Counties like Fairfield in CT are indeed home to wealthy towns like Greenwich and New Canaan, but Fairfield County is also home to Bridgeport, the largest city in the county and it's a poor and ethnically diverse city.
So how did the towns of the so called "gold coast" Fairfield County vote: New Canaan, one of the super wealthiest went 65% for Romney and 63% for the awful McMahon. Greenwich, another super wealthy town went handily for Romney http://greenwich.patch.com/articles/greenwich-election-day-2012-news-center Darien: Romney won it two to one. http://darien.dailyvoice.com/politics/romney-wins-darien-nearly-2-1 Is this true of others of the wealthiest counties? Yes. |
