We are a center right country

I heard this last night while I was enjoying the whining on Fox. WE ARE A CENTER LEFT COUNTRY. We have won the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 elections. Anytime I get into a political discussion with any repub, I will remind them of that and watch their head explode.

1. Excellent point.

They keep saying that, hoping it is true. But it's not. Especially when the issues are presented clearly instead of under the crazy-spin of wingnuts.

2. Just look at the percentage of people that now support marriage equality nationally

It's over 50% now... I think that's a pretty good indicator that we are a center left nation.

3. If only our politicians really believed it

they might be more likely to carry out popular programs and win more elections.

6. I think, partly, it's our jobs to convince them

and it's slowly happening within the Democratic party. Adding LGBTQ rights to their plank this year, finally, is a step in the right direction. It means they're getting it and I think leaving God out was an intentional step in the right direction as well. I don't think the Democratic party overlooked that, I think it was their way of trying to remove religion from politics as it has no place there.

8. A Center Left Country with a Far Right Media and a Right Wing Government...

Moderate Republicans of the 70s would be trashed as left wing ideologues.

9. our country is a center-left population with a center-right power structure

the electoral college favors republicans beyond their numbers.
the corrosive effect of money in elections favors republicans and keeps democrats dependent on moneyed interests.
this helps them win key state elections which lets them gerrymander and get an edge in congress.

the PEOPLE are center-left, but their voice is rather small by the time it gets to washington.

11. Left of center candidates are filtered by the party controlled primaries...

If the PTB were smart, THAT'S where they would use e-voting election fraud.

10. We are governed from the right. But that doesn't mean

we, the people, are center right. The concept we live in a representative type of republic is a joke.

12. Center right would be a darn treat compared to the raving right loons they thrust upon us

There's nothing "center" about the GOP

14. If we had proportional races instead of winner-take-all, it would be obvious to all

that the USA is a left of center country.
