CNN Popular Vote Tally: Obama Just Passed 3 Million Vote Margin

I've been watching this on and off all day. For the first time in the last 20 minutes or so, Obama's margin of victory over Romney just crossed 3 million votes. The numbers at present:

Obama: 61,164,405
Romney: 58,159,408

Margin: 3,004,997

Just as a note, Bush's margin over Kerry was 3,012,166.

Obama is within less than 8,000 votes of Bush's margin.

17. I Am Pretty Sure

That I heard today that President Obama lost at least 800,000 votes in the northeast because of Superstorm Sandy. Granted, those votes were not needed, but they should be taken into consideration when determining the size of the mandate.

23. Same margin as the Bush "mandate"

But it's a progressive mandate!

286 electoral vote was Bush's mandate - Obama got 332!

2. you know when the Media was going on about how Romney may win the Popular Vote

and the idiots who dont' understand how votes are counted thought Romney was ahead based on republican areas being counted first ?

a lot of wingnuts were writing about how we need to switch to popular vote. and how unfair the system is.

but i haven't heard much about it since Obama got ahead in popular.

8. No, California will give a few tens of thousands.

Counties are dealing with absentee and provisionals at this point.

12. I read something on the Internet this afternoon but can't find it now

It projected far more than a few tens of thousand votes outstanding in California. Overall, it projected about a 3.9 million advantage to Obama when all the results from all the states are finally in.

25. San Diego alone still has 375,000 more to count

http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/voters/results/election.xml

There are APPROXIMATELY 375000 Mail / Provisional ballots still to be counted

27. And you honestly think all of those will go to Obama?

I don't...

Now speaking of San Diego, keep your eye on the Bilbray Peters race.

There are a few local ones where it matters as well.

28. Over 1/2 of them will

San Diego is the second largest city in CA - LA, which has even better numbers for Obama, just under 70% - http://rrccmain.co.la.ca.us/0012_FederalContest_Frame.htm -

There are a lot of outstanding votes in CA still - and those votes will increase the lead.

29. The point I will try to make is that when all is said and done

It will not be a million votes

This was a mandate level election, but when all votes are counted I will be shocked if you add 1,000,000 to the tally.

30. Now that the counting is almost done...

This was a mandate level election, but when all votes are counted I will be shocked if you add 1,000,000 to the tally.

November 8th count:

Obama: 61,164,405
Romney: 58,159,408
Margin: 3,004,997

Today:

Obama: 65,138,059
Romney: 60,606,054
Margin: 4,532,005

Difference = 1,527,008

So are you shocked?

This is going to end up being a 3.5 million vote win, maybe even bigger.

13. Excellent! Between this and 332 EVs,

The GOP will probably clam up about claiming 'no mandate' real quick.

Or maybe some clueless soul in the press pool will ask about it.

The election was the only way to resolve the stalemate between Congress and the Executive Branch. The people decided.
