Local Teabaggers Prove Their Own Stupidity AGAIN

Last edited Thu Nov 8, 2012, 12:32 PM - Edit history (1)

I was watching the local news late last night, and there was a story about a local bond levy issue that had failed. This bond levy was on the ballot in one of the more affluent areas/counties around, and was a $7.5 million measure in order to fund local fire departments. As spokespeople for the fire departments said, this increase was NOT to fund raises for firefighters (perish the thought!), but was simply to enable the firehouses to operate at STATUS QUO.

Well, all the good-hearted "job creators" (aka rich people and teabaggers) showed up and voted down the bond measure. So what will be the result? Mass firefighter layoffs, huge delays in fire response times, and outright CLOSURE of many firehouses in the community. This bond would have raised the taxes of the people in this community a couple of bucks. Less than most of these people would spend on a single DINNER. But we live in "all taxes are bad" land, and it failed.

But here's the kicker: karma's a mean, nasty bitch. Now that fire response times will be slowed considerably, guess what happens when Daddy Warbucks comes home and finds his mansion on fire. Better get those garden hoses ready, "rugged individualists." And even better, for the people who live in the areas serviced by the firehouses that are now being closed, and who now will have NO fire protection whatsoever? Their homeowner's insurance policies will shoot their premiums through the roof, making the money they now have to spend on homeowner's insurance EXPONENTIALLY more than they would have paid for this puny bond measure.

Gotta love how those teabaggers always think everything through to its logical conclusion.

2. Almost all our local teabagger Town Council office holders were kicked out Tuesday!

And their attempt to takeover our school committee and budget committee also failed! A great day all around.

3. Correct me if I am wrong.

But I seem to recall a story years ago about rich districts employing private fire fighters.

4. I'm sure it's less expensive to hire private firefighters

Than to spend a few dollars more (cost of a meal according to op) on those big mean union thug firefighters.

13. Many areas have completely volunteer fire departments

There's no link in the OP or mention of a town, so the situation is pretty ambiguous.

With which to screw themselves......Too bad they can't find a way to do it without screwing us too.......I can remember a time when folks with destructive and self destructive mindsets were shut away from the public.....Then the folks with that mindset, defunded mental health programs.....And....Here we are.....

to restore a functional fire dept.

12. stupid frickin' "morans"....

They did similar in my area, but we just had brand new beautiful stations built and some had to be shut down because of those "god damn greedy unions".

By the time these idiots pull their head out of their ass someone would have already gotten hurt and good chance it would be someone that strongly supported the levy.

The "karma's mean, nasty ..............." is offensive to women. (not just the "bitch" thing, but we get kinda tired of our genitals being described or referred to as gross and disgusting)

Something like "karma will really kick your ass" or somesuch would get the same point across.
Thanks!

(even changing it to "karma's a bitch", though not ideal, would be a significant improvement)

Your OP shows another great example of Teabagger stupidity. Thanks for posting it.

(**Edited to remove the most offensive language, since the OP's now done the same. Now noone has to see it.)

15. Edited So As To Take Out The "Colorful" Language

I have no problem editing out my hyperbole when people come at me respectfully, as you did.

And for the people wondering where this is, it's in a smaller county in Central Ohio, about a half hour from Columbus. This county is very affluent, but known to be extremely Conservative (it's still a dry county--did you know those even EXISTED anymore?)

21. Thanks, CB!

A dry county in OHIO?! I grew up in OH (since I was 11, anyway - Cleveland suburb) and still have family there, and it shocks me what's happened to the state w/ it's sharp turn to the right.

Now I'm stuck in Oklahoma due to hubby's job (for nearly 20 yrs now - ACK!). At least Ohio is still "purple" - OK is as deep, deep red as it gets. The RWers are ignorant as hell, and damned proud of it! Sucks.

YAY to all the Ohioans who gave the state to Obama!! (all my family members included, I'm happy to say.)

19. penny wise, pound foolish

You know......you'd think the 'executive class' would have thought this through better.

It's not like we haven't seen a lot of homes burn down this year when an area is hit by drought after all.

Or is it that these people always assume that only applies to 'other people', 'THOSE people'?

I wonder how many houses will become ash and whisps of smoke before they rethink this and do another bond levy?

Or maybe they think it makes more sense to privatize their local fire services? That way, when a neighbor who hasn't paid up for private fire first responders goes up in flames, accidentally igniting the houses around it, they can pay more too.

That's how we used to do fire coverage - private providers. It doesn't work well unless everyone has it, which is what led to community fire fighters.

Karma, amped up by stupidity, is not going to just bite them in the ass, it's going to entirely dine on them.

....and charge those teabaggers what the market will bear for out of jurisdiction fire department services.

As they say: "Careful what you ask for."

25. Lol, that is funny. But it's true, most of them would be the first to call for 'free government

services' when they needed them. Remember their hero, Ayn Rand.

The only problem is how they managed to get into positions of power in this country.

26. County where I grew up cancelled their ambulance contract a few years ago.

Fortunately, it was a fairly well off individual who was the first to need an ambulance and die because no ambulance company would service the country on a "may or may not get paid" basis. The county re-contracted ambulance service immediately.

I say "fortunately" because, let's not kid ourselves here, had it been some poor person the county would have reasoned that they were denied service because they could not afford it. And they would have been perfectly okay with that. Otherwise, they would never have let the contract expire in the first place. Since a wealthier person was the first to die, it meant nobody else had to before the county responded.

28. I thought doing away with publicly-paid firefighters was more of a Libertarian idea?

Hard to isolate, given that there is so much cross-fertilization between Republican ideas and Libertarian ideas.
