Mazie Hirono - Hawaii
First Asian American female elected to U.S.Senate. Most people do not know that all the way back during the 97 - 99 marriage wars, when Hawaii won same sex marriage rights, that were put on hold and eventually denied while they amended our constitution, Mazie was the sole significant legislator opposed to amending the constitution (she was in Congress then) supporting gay rights. I met her and know It's true. That was very courageous of her in those days. I love Mazie ! : )
