(19,841 posts)My brother is in Melbourne. He is American and voted absentee in the state of Florida. But he'll probably live in Australia now (his wife is from Melbourne). I also have a sister in Sydney (also married to an Aussie).
So part of my heart is in Australia. Tell people over there that we are fighting a very hard battle for Democracy in America.
That's not an exaggeration.
Thank you for your support!

(3,714 posts)I don't envy you folks over there. The only political BS I've been exposed to here is the stuff I voluntarily exposed myself to. I'm guessing the political news and BS was much much worse than the last one I was through (2004)
Get ready to turn off those lights, because the (R) party's over.

(163 posts)I grew up in Little Ukrainia in New York. I've been hoping all my life to spend a few months traveling in your country, and seeing all the things I was told about, back in the 1950's and 60s. I'll be retiring next year, and I'm going to move heaven and earth to do that.
Now... the effing House in 2014...

(1,581 posts)election they only have 6 weeks total to campaign. There is a lot of low key stuff that goes on when they think there may be and election called in the near future but mostly it is just bluster and posturing.
Watching with interest from central British Columbia, Good Luck.

(19,841 posts)it's so absurd, ridiculously expensive, a hyper-media assault.
But THIS TIME all the crazed hoo-ha is probably GOOD--it has given the voters more time to see the real candidates behind the facades.
We saw the REAL MITT RMONEY and ALL that he represents.... so in some ways, that is good. He and his ilk are exposed.
Anybody who votes for Mitt Romney is a fool --after what we have seen....
southernyankeebelle
(11,304 posts)already. I thought your campaign time was shorter. Gosh I wish ours was. Fight like hell not to have a Fox News in your country. They are nothing but a bunch of traitors.

(10,303 posts)I have made this place my home for the past 13 years. I came here when Clinton was in office. Survived GW Bush. Recovered under Obama. I want to keep on recovering, and I don't just want to survive.
Please, America for my family's sake - have some sanity.

(9,753 posts)Expecting to wake up to the race already having been called for our President.
I sent my vote in weeks ago, but to Texas, so who knows whether they counted it or not.
But if you haven't voted yet please do!
I don't want to have what happened to me in 2004 repeated I went to bed (in Romania at the time) with Kerry comfortably ahead, only to wake and find that Republicans had managed to steal their second election in a row.
So good luck to all, and if you find yourself in a long line, remember you're not alone. We're all pulling for you, and for America.
