Romney staff refusing to let frostbitten children leave PA rally (UPDATED)Last edited Sun Nov 4, 2012, 07:30 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2)
UPDATE: I am seeing additional tweets about people begging to leave so they can use the bathroom. Not being let out. More than I can post.
This is happening right now at Mitt Romney’s rally in Pennsylvania. Apparently it’s freezing, and Romney’s staff is refusing to let rally-goers leave. People are begging reporters for help. Absolutely incredible. Michael Barbaro @mikiebarb "We've got to get out! My daughter is frostbitten," begs mom, asking to leave Romney rally. Staffer replies: "It's not cold enuf for that." http://americablog.com/2012/11/romney-staff-refusing-to-let-frostbitten-children-leave-pa-rally.html

If it is, how pathetic and psychopathic is that? I hope this gets spread around all over twitter and FB. God knows the media would never dare utter this on tv.

But if it's true, OMG, just think what the mentality of these goons is.
After watching video of the Ryan meeting with the elderly man trying to speak and gettting arrested and forced to the floor crying in pain. Then Ryan joking about his blood pressure medicine and the supporters laughing about it.T This would be too much. |

A steady New Deal Democrat, and despite differences on how to get things done, a strong Obama supporter. He still comes out here at times, but I'm not able to make those fast meets. He's not going to be gone from poliitcal life altogether as he's involved in a group of some kind. He's a free spirit, gone in and out of public service, to find his own path. He has a fan base, but it will be difficult to get another go in office. I wish him the best.

169. Paul Ryan Cracks Joke As 71 Year-Old Citizen Is Forced To The Ground (VIDEOS)
|
Update: The name of the man pushed to the ground is Tom Nielsen. Read about who he is here.**
The first video is self-explanatory, but I have transcribed as much of it here as possible because of the poor quality of the audiovisuals. This took place last fall at one of Congressman Rep. Ryan’s “Pay to Play” town hall meetings where he was discussing cutting Senior’s Social Security, and Medicare as a means of debt reduction. As you might imagine, one senior was not pleased. Ryan: “Most of our debt in the future comes from our entitlement programs.” Senior citizen: “Hey, (Garbled; Ryan continues to speak). I paid into that for 50 years, my unemployment and my Social Security and my Medicare, and now you’re gonna…” At this point you hear the police who are dragging him out shouting, “on the ground, on the ground”. Ryan then jokes, “I hope he’s taken his blood-pressure medication”, and the room laughs with him. Here’s the video: Dramatic video: 71-year-old taken to the Ground for questioning Paul Ryan As Congressman Paul Ryan cracked a joke about him, Tom Nielsen found himself face down on the floor being handcuffed by police. The 71-year-old retired plumber from Kenosha was thrown to the ground, placed in handcuffs, and arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest after objecting to Ryan's plans to gut Social Security and Medicare during his congressman's only public appearance scheduled during the August recess -- a $15 Rotary Club luncheon in West Allis on Tuesday. Nielsen repeatedly told police that he wasn't fighting them and that he didn't want to make any trouble. He also told them several times that he had a broken shoulder. Police officers ignored his comments as they wrestled him to the ground despite his howls of pain. Nielsen's comment to Ryan at the luncheon, his arrest, and Ryan's joke are all captured on video available here. More at the link: http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/08/11/paul-ryan-cracks-joke-as-71-year-old-citizen-is-forced-to-the-ground-videos/ **Who Was Paul Ryan’s 71 Year Old Victim? Here's the worst of it, but there is more at the link: What he saw at the luncheon was very different from what he expected. Two people found themselves under arrest for speaking out at the luncheon and Tom watched in dismay as 20 others were forcefully escorted out. Tom watched as protestors were removed and listened to Ryan make smart remarks about the protesters such as, “We can get her a “to go” bag!” and “What’s unique and exciting about this is that the Rotarians got 15 bucks out of them!” Tom decided to speak up when he heard the Congressman use the word “entitlements” referring to his hard-earned benefits despite the fact that he had a broken clavicle from a recent automobile accident. Tom found himself forced to the ground by the hired officers who paid no heed as he howled in pain due to his broken clavicle. Tom maintained that he informed police officers repeated that he was not fighting with them and that he had a broken shoulder. He was still man-handled to the ground where he howled with pain from the assault upon his broken clavicle. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/08/13/who-was-paul-ryans-71-year-old-victim/ In keeping with the 4 paragraph rule, I've only put 4 per link. I'll make another reply for you in a minute. They're also going over this exact same story that is in the OP. It's getting legs. |

179. Another video from the same link:
|
Ryan has a history of being booed and hissed at Town Hall meetings. He has told folks to leave and he progressed to having them arrested. Here’s a video by Moveon.org showing three other people arrested for asking about jobs at the same gathering:
Paul Ryan "Townhall" Arrests Rep. Paul Ryan's only August appearance is at this $15 a ticket "townhall", where he refuses to speak directly with his constituents--who are demanding real answers. Instead? He has them arrested. Call Rep. Ryan and tell him: That's not how we do things in America. From the Addicting Info link: None of those arrested have yet identified themselves publicly. It’s embarrassment enough that the arrests happened at all…for asking questions of their elected representative. Rep. Ryan has refused to address his constituents in the past and at this particular meeting, which was held at Klemmer’s Banquet Hall in Milwaukee, Ryan charged $15 to attend. When some who had paid their money stood up and began to question Ryan about the jobless rate and the Bush Tax cuts, they found themselves under arrest. To make a joke as a senior citizen is being shoved to the ground for vocalizing their concerns and questions to their Congressman Representative reveals much about Ryan’s character. In the last video, he actually waves to the reporters who are shaming him and the police officers for arresting people for no cause. Since this is the man Romney picked as his running mate, it speaks volumes about Romney’s character as well. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/08/11/paul-ryan-cracks-joke-as-71-year-old-citizen-is-forced-to-the-ground-videos/ Make you own judgment about the kind of man Ryan is. He says that Ayn Rand is is the reason he got into politics to change things. He claims also to be a Catholic, but I don't know any Catholics who would follow Ayn Rand. Her works are required reading for staff. She admired a notorious serial killer, William Hickman, and her first novel was based on his character. He decapitated a young girl that he was blackmailing her father for ransom, and after getting the money tossed her head out the window of his stolen car. She called him the Superman, who cares for no one but himself. She gushes about how much freedom that is. She used the terms 'producers' and 'parasites' which is equivalent to the political terms, 'job creators' and 'leeches.' She said that helping the poor is immoral, that they are destined to be taken out, used by the superior people. She hated Christianity. She was a drug addict who ended up in her final years despite her hatred for social programs, was taken care of by Social Security and Medicare. Since Ryan has used the term 'takers' to describe the 47%, but when called on his idolizing Rand by Christian groups, including Catholics who decried his budget, he claimed it wasn't that important now. I believe these videos and stories, with his disdainful attitude, show that is exactly what the man is into and wants to inflict on America. His fake story about an auto accident to Biden was meant to be a poke at Biden's own personal grief, when his own wife and daughter were killed. I saw the look on their faces in the debate, Ryan thought he would put Biden off. It didn't work. I reallly don't trust these guys to do the right thing, you know? |

190. There are vicious people in communities that support this. Having had to deal with some of these
|
Tea Party types in person, I can tell you that can be frightening. They will go out of their way to harm in any way they can a person who doesn't agree with them, as we've seen in WI that they found people through Facebook and public record and go after them in person, breaking windows, threatening assault, their jobs, and organizing to destroy them socially.
In public, they are often on the verge of violence, with no respect for others at all. They see many groups as enemies. This is from listening to hate radio for over twenty years has done. What people in the past would never do, they do openly to shut other people up. As far as the idea that Ryan is not showing consideration for theese voters, they don't consider them important. They don't consider these people to be of any value to the Randian world they want to create. Their contempt is strong, they enjoy this. Surveying these things, that are taking place in every state, not just around this election, is why perhaps some prefer to take cheap shots at Democrats and people in D.C, as if they can wave a magic wand to make things right on the state level. The trouble is on the state level and must be dealt with there and it's financially, socially, emotionally and physically risky . People like Ryan were elected and have held office and if he doesn't win as VP, he will still be preaching his brand of fascism with the help of media. The Democratic opposition has traditionally organized around public workers and unions and that is who they have attacked the most. It's been like watching a fascist overtake. Or a hostile takeover, as some have described it. With Obama reelected and a Democratic majority, and a push to gain back some parity in local and state offices, we can a voice again. But at this point, they've cut us off. |

220. No, they are working. Are you seeing the box with the exclaimation point?
|
I had this happen during the DNC convention. It's because the site is busy. Check again later. Or search them out to watch thorugh the Addicting Info link.
They are not taken down, no one has permission to do so because the source is not commercial. The GOP has taken down those links that are from commercial broadcasts to stop them being seen, claiming copyright. These are still there on youtube. If you can't see them through the other website (which has been busy and loading slower due to the election interest) let me know and I'll post a separated link that you can combine and paste to see it on youtube directly. DU is at Level 1, may be moving to Level 2. I hope we dont't get all the way there in the next day or so, the Admins will be busy keeping us going. Although youtube nearly crashed from the number of viewers during the convention! |

People Literally Held Hostage At Romney Rally, Despite Complaints Of Frostbite
Is this really happening? Last night, three reporters from three different major U.S. news outlets tweeted that attendees of a Romney rally were prevented from leaving, causing people to push through barricades: From a USA Today reporter: There are several people here at Pa. rally who want to leave and aren’t being let out. — Jackie Kucinich (@JFKucinich) That is cited in the OP., as well as this at the same link: From a New York Times reporter: “We’ve got to get out! My daughter is frostbitten,” begs mom, asking to leave Romney rally. Staffer replies: “It’s not cold enuf for that.” — Michael Barbaro (@mikiebarb) November 4, 2012 What is not in the OP is here: From a CBS News reporter: As @mittromney speaks, many people- cold, old, w/children… All rushing out of barricades, right by press riser — Sarah Boxer (@Sarah_Boxer) November 5, 2012 ...In less than 2 days, our next president will be decided. On one side, we have a proven incumbent with nothing to hide. On the other, we have millionaire tax dodger Mitt Romney, who not only thinks 47% of Americans are victims, but also is riding on the crest of the biggest election spending tsunami in history. And Sheldon Adelson, the biggest donor to the biggest conservative SuperPAC, is the man who might ultimately decide the election … http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/11/04/people-held-hostage-at-romney-rally/ |

57. No it's not a security issue..............
|
I attended President Obama's speech at Carnegie Mellon this past summer. You entered through the metal detectors. If you wanted to leave, you didn't leave through the metal detectors, but to the right or left side of them. Leaving is never a problem, or a security issue, because if you want to get back in, you go to the end of the line and reenter through the metal detectors.
If what I'm reading is correct, that people were not allowed to leave, then it appears that Romeny's campaign workers were blocking the exits. This story reminds me of the reason I can't swim. I was at the public swimming pool, when the lifeguards locked all the exits and told us no one could leave until they swam the length of the pool. I was sitting in the bleachers, when it came time to be called to start my swim, i began to cry and shiver so uncontrollably my nose began to bleed. When the lifeguard saw my face full of tears and blood, he skipped me, but wouldn't let me leave. |

I have no idea why some people think that the best way to teach children to swim is to torture them. When I was learning to swim many people thought that the best way was to throw children into the deep end of the pool and let them struggle.
I was fortunate to be taught to swim by a real swim coach. He could be overbearing but he understood that children need to be introduced to water gradually and gently. |

...of people leaving Romney's events--during his speech and even before he speaks (after the entertainment is through). I am sure this displeased King Mitt and he decided to make it policy that no one could leave his rally until he was finished speaking.
Think I'm joking? I'm serious. People leaving while you are speaking is bad for PR. They're desperate and that's the last thing they want. I've also seen stories on FR, of people making fun of Obama because people were leaving his rallies early. It's no big deal. It's cold in many of these swing states--Iowa, Ohio, Minnesota, Michigan, PA. Leaving early is not a personal attack on the speaker. Sometimes people have to leave. Freepers are the ones who have a problem with it. I think the Karl Rove wing of the party has helped to mandate that NO ONE leaves a rally until it's over--to avoid anything less than the, "We're gonna win because everyone loves us!" meme that they're trying to project. I will wait to hear more info. If this happened, more witnesses will come forward. This is utterly ridiculous. |

Sounds like, in a crowd of thousands in November in Pennsylvania, some people are going to find it too uncomfortable and also find it hard to extract themselves from said crowd. Especially when security issues are involved. Look, Romney's enough of a walking disaster on the face of it, we don't have to make stuff up (or, more precisely, believe everything that's tweeted that feeds into our disdain for the guy). |

For those that doubt this to be true, you've obviously never been around a big campaign before. No way someone is going to tweet that with their name on it. ON EDIT.. so now they say it's "A SECURITY issue." REally?? people leaving is a security issue??? Bullshit. I'd freak the fuck out if someone wouldn't let me OUT of a giant rally. it was a security concern or their misunderstanding thinking it was a security concern. I've been to 2 Obama rallies. the first one, secret service had us blocked from leaving until the President left - this was a huge one in Columbus so if there was an alternate route, I didn't know about it and it would have been too far to walk and find my way back to the car. The second one was in Mansfield and much smaller. Certain routes were blocked at the order of secret service. A friendly cop told me an alternate route to find my way to my car - and I had google maps on my phone this time.

167. This is desperation on the part of Romney.
|
They need those crowds for the cameras. And the last thing they want is more video of people leaving a rally.
So what's their response? Don't let them leave. This is typical. The man sees people as bodies for him to use to increase his wealth and status. |

173. I have just heard an official explanation why people were not allowed to leave
|
Apparently, it was decided by health and safety officials that nobody should leave the rally as an outbreak of Romnesia had swept through crowd, and it was feared that it would lead to further contamination.

|

these people are heading out. Apparently Mitt was over an hour late, and people were freezing (it was 37 a few hours ago.) Some man collapsed in the crowd, people couldn't get out to go to the bathroom, or to leave because they were cold. Makes me wonder if this was another Mitt event with a free musical event at the beginning, but they didn't want everyone leaving like they did for his last two events when everyone started leaving after the music. |

that these people were trying to exit into the press area that the Secret Service had secured and so they could not go there. So, perhaps it is being misinterpreted. The people may have been way up in the front or something?
