Deleted my FB Republican friends

I don't know what got into me. I saw that irritating "Friends who Like Romney and Ryan" thing on the side and just started deleting all the names of Friends who "Liked" Romney and Ryan.

I actually feel kind of bad about it now. But I've been getting into some heated debates with some of them and it was taking too much time. I'll never see most of those people again anyway and I now know their true colors.

I actually have a few more to delete. Mainly, my racist cousins in Las Vegas who have posted some terrible things about Obama. Next time I log-in I'll cut them out.

These people have never known what it's like not being White, so they're unable (or unwilling) to realize all their advantages.

They then either naturally assume that the way they can move about in the world is how everybody else can as well (which makes everybody who brings up about racism a "whiner&quot , or they think that they somehow deserve their elevated status and ferociously try to maintain it.

Either way, they're miserable human beings.

I've done it myself...and that includes some in laws as well...personally I consider them enemies...not only because of political disagreements, but because I feel that they could be a threat to my children and grandchildren!

It mainly has to do with their racial attitudes...and in some cases their religious fanaticism!!!

It was actually my wife's friend, which was almost as important. I know she's a Republican, but when she posted this touchy-feely thing about how wonderful it is that Americans can all get together in times of crisis, like the storm or when our country is attacked, I...I...I just couldn't leave it alone. I was very nice about the storm part, agreed that we came together for the most part, except for that Romney wouldn't pay for FEMA and thinks it's immoral. Oh, and after the recent attacks on Benghazi, we've been barraged with fake news stories from Fox about Obama being in on it all along, and that he's a murderer...and...and...

The post quickly disappeared, followed by a text that I'm just a hateful, hateful person.

Knowing her temperament, my reply was actually very even-keeled, succinct and factual. I knew she would read beyond a couple of paragraphs. I did apologize for upsetting her. She told me it was just a show of support for her son (but didn't explain how or why). So I let it ride with an apology. Easier than explaining to my wife why her friend hates me. LOL!

I post pro-Obama links and comments and have had "friends" and family de-friend me after they post a nasty comment. Those same people post pro Mittens crap and I just hide all their posts from my news feed. If I want to look at their rant, I can go to their wall. If they were really friends, I wouldn't delete them. Just hide their rants to your news feed. It will all be over in one week and they will just have to suck it up knowing four more years for Obama.

I regard people in general as typically high maintenance. Perhaps why I have always been somewhat of a loner. My small circle of close friends is by design. "Friending" on Facebook is completely out of my character.

Not because I can't get along with folks, but because I eventually learn their agenda and it typically doesn't sit well with me.

What bothers me most are those that feel compelled to elevate their social stature to the point that they exert much time and energy to do so. There is nothing wrong with taking pride in what you do, being good at what you do, or being confident with what you do. However, I do believe that those that really have "it", enjoy praise with little or no solicitation for it.

I believe our President is the type of personality I would include into my small circle of friends. I trust him.

put a "like" on Romney too. But none of them are teabaggers, they're lukewarm Romney supporters. In fact a couple of them might have done it because of some online offer, such as "Like Mitt Romney, and get a free can of spray paint, so you can go as a Mexican on Halloween", or some lame thing like that. Pretty sure they're mostly just impatient with Obama, and haven't thought it through what it would mean if Romney were to become president.

Several people from grade school have friended me even tho they don't even know me anymore (I'm 53 now) and hardly interact with me at all. I don't need friends like that. Obviously, if they're big right wingers, the only thing we have in common is that we went to fifth grade together.

I still have two big time Romney supporters on FB because they are very old friends or relatives who I prefer not to get into political discussions with. I just hide all their posts. They've probably hidden mine too.

They were all people I knew in high school or college. I didn't particularly want to get back in touch with them but when they found me on FB and asked to friend me I accepted. Then the jokes about killing the president started, and the thumbs up for Sarah Palin's book, etc., and I just went through one day and cleaned house.

I have quite a few RW friends on FB. I think all of them are from school days, but we have a pretty tight HS class, even though we are coming up on our 35th next year. As long as their posts aren't overtly racist, homophobic, misogynistic, etc... I try to ignore them. Subtler offenses often get noted and pointed out. Same with my friend's friends on their walls. And they do the same with my posts - mostly ignore them. (They're probably better at that than I am, actually - of course, I have Truth and Reason on my side. )

I guess I view tolerance and continued dialogue as a better long term strategy towards reconciliation than isolationism, and it has to start with my own social circle. We'll see...

Apparently things have sometimes gone a bit wrong with Facebook, and people have been listed as 'Liking' Romney who do no such thing. An American Facebook friend of mine (staunch Dem, though I know her from a non-political context) mentioned that she had a couple of Democratic-voting friends who were mysteriously listed as 'liking' Romney.

If people have actually posted anti-Obama stuff, that is of course different!
