Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you think Romney made a really off-putting request to Christie behind the scenes?
Christie came out swinging this morning. I almost detected some disgust in his eyes when he was asked about Romney by FOX and friends. We all know how tone deaf Romney is-do you think he called Christie and made a really crass, self-serving request for a photo op or something?

(3,333 posts)I suspect he did make some inappropriate politically based requests of both.

(36,437 posts)campaign guy is asking him to get on the team for 2016.
Christie knows Romney is sinking, and he's not going to hop on that boat with his own re-election a year away, and a really good chance at pulling blue states in 2016.
The real knife here is out for Paul Ryan. Christie is essentially saying, hey, moderate voters, give me a look in a couple of years - I'm not a wackadoo Rape Baby Fanatic like this Ryan cat.
Ryan must be hopping mad.

(89,150 posts)and to deal with someone wanting some political photo op or such thing at such a time would really be a turn off.

(36,437 posts)I also have no doubt that Obama has impressed him with his preparedness and commitment.
Indeed, Christie would have to go out on a limb to deny all that. He's not going to stick his neck out for a loser like Romney, especially not when staying close to Obama gains him some ancillary political benefit in both 2013 and 2016.

(24,030 posts)he needs something from him right now. Mark my words, Christie is not Obama's new supporter, He will turn on the president as soon as he gets what he needs.
Obama, I'm sure, is smart enough to realize this. He'll do the right thing for the people of New Jersey and the other states damaged by the storm, but he'll do it for the right reasons, not to gain favor from Republicans who will stab him in the back as soon as they can.

(28,158 posts)I just posted this elsewhere, but it's relevant here, too.
Romney thought Christie was going to be his ticket into the disaster area.
However, Romney only had a bus of canned goods to offer as a reason. Not nearly enough when you've got death, homelessness and widespread infrastructure devastation to deal with.
Christie knew he needed a real leader, a person able and willing to assist all the people, and address all the problems. Romney isn't that person. He needed real assistance and he made the better choice.

(9,992 posts)suggestions that Mittens come play concerned patriot in New Jersey AND in praising Obama for his leadership.
The FOX mouth breathers were left gaping into the camera and scrambling to recover... all the while their pre-programmed chirons kept touting a Mittens visit that was NEVER gonna happen.

(53,410 posts)I doubt he's had much sleep or rest in the last few days. First he had to work around the clock to get NJ as prepared as possible, get people evacuated, constantly monitor the Hurricane so he could put much of the State emergency apparatus working, then having to deal with the onslaught and all the myriad of things happening during the Hurricane and now the after-effects of the Hurricane.
I imagine there are a lot of exhausted elected officials in the Northeast States.
