We have had some damage in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, but not too bad. We never lost power thank God. 80 homes destroyed in the Rockaways, because fire fighters could not get water on the fire. They were able to get the people out of the fires path. Staten Island had damage to homes from the flood waters, and they have massive power outages. You all know the rest just by TV and internet. I have to say the cable networks while good are just not as good as the local reporter. But I guess that is always the case. My prays are with those whose who are going through hell and uncertainty right now.

(9,974 posts)Which is great, because after a while, it seems the cable news shows keep looping their interviews and videotape AND have too many frigging commercials. With these 2 channels, they are showing reports from multiple local channels--when one local channel says that they are going to a commerical, Directv then starts to show another local news channel report
I don't know if it is different in each city, but the DirecTV channel I have on is 349,

(25,415 posts)This is crazy, this flooding. Long Island Sound was described as angry by a meteorologist on my CT news station this morning. I think that fits. I have never seen waves in Long Island Sound like this before. My cousins live out on Long Island and it looks pretty bad out there too.
Local news has done an exceptional job all along the east coast.

He's fine, hasn't lost electricity.
I told him about the fires.

(14,337 posts)At my daughter's house in Levittown, LI (inland). There are no trees down on this street and we are part of the 10% on LI who DIDN'T lose power.
Around the corner? Trees down and one came down on a house and crushed part of it. Fortunately, the owners and kids were in the other part of the house when it fell. That street does not have power.
