Remember Katrina. If the talkin' heads couldn't glass it with a camera, it wasn't happening. Once the wind died, 'all clear' was declared.
Was not until the next day the full magnitude of the disaster started to unfold.

Sounds like NYC is getting hammered.
Floodwaters crossed Long Island, leaving Montauk isolated.
Haven't heard anything from Long Is Sound or Conn/RI shore.
Been exchanging texts with a friend in Philly. She still has power, having a hurricane yoga party w/friends to keep their minds off storm.

(13,485 posts)at a cam of Midtown Manhattan and it's almost completely blacked out. There's no information coming out other than sporadic private phones. Many reports from phone sources say most building's backup support is non functional, mostly because it's all in the basements. It seems this is how it usually is. It hits, night falls, darkness, rumors. Then morning brings the ugly reality.
