A toilet tip for those without water.

When you have to take a dump, line the toilet bowl with one of those plastic supermarket shopping bags. Take the dump in that then tie it up and put out in the trash. Just like the doggy poop bags.It will save you a lot of stink.

And use rainwater to flush. Or just poop in my yard.

For many, it will make flushing possible if the power goes out. We do it here in Fl during hurricanes- actually came in handy at least twice.

Funnily, when I just entered this thread, an ad for kitty litter popped up to the right of the original post! Actually, I just heard a guy recommend kitty litter usage on NBC Today show earlier today.

When we lost power last October it was for days and the drain on the tub we filled slowly let the water leak out.
Just a warning.

I was surprised how much water my two dogs went through when we lost power last October. You would be surprised.
We have a generator now.

fill the tub with water. Keep a bucket in the bathroom and when you are done pour, water into the toilet bowl. It will work better than a platic bag.

I have a well and there should be one free flush, use it wisely. When we lose power the men in my house will tend to pee outside.

When it starts getting bad or before you evac, UNPLUG everthing that you can. A power surge when the electricity comes back on can mess with your electronics, even with a surge protector.

If you have filled your tub with water, or have sufficient bottled water, flush your toilet by filling the tank - not the bowl - and flushing as normal. This also prevents accidentally splashing/spreading waste matter into the air.

Turn your freezer and refrigerator to the coldest setting possible, and keep the freezer as full as possible by packing it with bottles of water, which you can then use for toilet flushing or drinking as they thaw. Every degree below zero in your freezer buys you about two to four hours of time before defrosting begins.
