WOW. The new Romney ad that lies about Jeep and China is getting CREAMED by the press.Last edited Mon Oct 29, 2012, 09:01 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
ESPECIALLY in car country. Just a sample.
Detroit Free Press: “Not only was the story wrong, Romney took criticism for not knowing better and repeating it without questioning it.” Toledo Blade: “‘The latest Romney ad, I will grant you, is a clever play on words to avoid saying things that are utterly false,’ Mr. Rattner said, referring to a new Romney ad out today. But he said the implication of the ad is ‘just not true. Chrysler is adding people. It's made major investments in the Toledo Wrangler plant.’” Huffington Post: “Where the ad goes from misleading to something more nefarious is in the text it shows. At one point, it displays a line from a Bloomberg story stating that Chrysler "plans to return Jeep output to China," the implication being that the company is moving operations there as opposed to expanding operations that are already there.” Wall Street Journal: “So far, the Romney campaign hasn’t issued a public statement on the flap.” Sam Stein @samsteinhp i asked this morning and am still waiting this evening: anyone have a sound defense of this Romney Jeep ad? Ron Fournier @ron_fournier Nope "@samsteinhp: i asked this morning and am still waiting this evening: anyone have a sound defense of this Romney Jeep ad?" Ben White @morningmoneyben Wait, not only did Romney camp not back off the erroneous Jeep to China canard, they made an ad out of it? My god Ben White @morningmoneyben @davidshepardson it's astonishingly misleading Joe Vardon @joevardon Wait, Jeep isn't considering moving manufacturing to China? But Romney said in Ohio ... http://bit.ly/ScsbsY McKay Coppins @mckaycoppins There's really no good explanation or excuse for it. Mitt Romney's Jeep ad is misleading. Full stop. Tim Dickinson @7im"Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China" http://on.freep.com/VRbWVD Michael Cohen @speechboy71 The mendaciousness of Romney's new auto ad is breathtaking even for him: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20121028/POLITICS01/210280314 … Travis Waldron @Travis_Waldron Mitt can't tell the truth about GM/Chrysler, because the truth is simple: At every turn, he was wrong. Sam Stein @samsteinhp The Romney campaign did defend the Jeep ad to me, by citing the Bloomberg piece that has been called wrong by Jeep http://huff.to/PAZCWY Blake Hounshell @blakehounshell OK, @CitizenCohn has persuaded me: this is pretty despicable http://www.tnr.com/blog/plank/109256/romney-ohio-chrysler-jeep-china-toledo-obama-gm-rescue# … Andrew Kaczynski @BuzzFeedAndrew Interestingly, this Romney ad cites the Detroit News, which also debunked the Jeep production moving to China claim. Josh Greenman @joshgreenman Who's acting desperate now? http://www.tnr.com/blog/plank/109256/romney-ohio-chrysler-jeep-china-toledo-obama-gm-rescue … Kurt Eichenwald @kurteichenwald Do GOPers believe Romney when he repeatedly says Chrysler' moving jeep job to china, when company says it's a lie? He'll say anything to win A sampling of headlines the ad has received: Detroit Free Press: Romney's latest ad claims he will do more for the auto industry than Obama Columbus Dispatch: Jeep/Romney question lingers Detroit News: UAW denounces Romney comments on Jeep production Detroit News: New Romney ad: 'Italians' plan to build Jeeps in China Detroit Free Press: Romney returns topic to auto industry bailout, his weak spot, in crucial swing state Ohio Detroit Free Press: Romney camp silent on his Jeep-to-China gaffe Detroit News: Romney picks up incorrect story about Jeep production moving to China Detroit Free Press: Romney repeats false claim of Jeep outsourcing to China; Chrysler refutes story Detroit Free Press: Tom Walsh: Romney keeps returning to auto industry, a vulnerable spot MLive: Romney wrongly claims Chrysler may move all Jeep production to China (video) NBC 24: Jeep not leaving Toledo for China, Chrysler assures Toledo Blade: Romney worries about Jeep going to China Toledo Blade: Romney tweaks Jeep production to China claim Toledo Blade: Auto czar protests Romney plan for auto industry WFIN: Unions Protest Romney/Ryan Appearance In Findlay CBS: Romney cites incorrect auto manufacturing claim in Ohio The Hill: Chrysler: Romney is wrong, Jeep not leaving US for China NBC: Politics of auto bailout haunt Romney in Northwest Ohio Wall Street Journal: Romney Ad Escalates Detroit Rescue Controversy Huffington Post: Mitt Romney Releases Auto Ad That Misleads On Facts Think Progress: Romney Auto Bailout Ad Tells Four Myths In 30 Seconds The New Republic: A Desperate, Deceptive Gambit for Romney in Ohio The ad, if you have the stomach for it:

This is right up there with Johnny Carson's exposure of Uri Geller as a fraud years ago on the Tonight Show. You can see the moment when Trump realizes where Letterman is going and clearly starts to squirm. Seconds later Dave plunges in the knife. The look on Trump's face is priceless. I've watched it over and over.

Willard's still playing the 50.1 game...find just enough white people to get to the polls while trying to suppress the blacks and other minorities. No better way to get your people "energized" than a good does of fear and poutrage. The great unhinged are at five-alarm shitstorm over anything and everything they can conjur up. Every problem in the world is President Obama's fault and if that means to lie...so be it. This is bloodsport and the Bishop needs to play whatever card he can in his vain attempt to bullshit his way to power.

|
I keep hearing/reading the beltway press yapping about those "still undecided voters", and I wonder just what those fringe dwellers need to know that they've not gotten already ? Lemme see ... which candidate likes my favorite jello flavor ?
My notion of the undecided voter is someone who hasn't tuned in very often, someone with very little knowledge of the candidates positions on important issues, they're records, etc., I think of undecided voters as people most sensitive to sound-bites and what they over hear around the workplace water cooler. Hey, Mitt Romney was a businessman, he knows how to create jobs, Obama hasn't done enough, blah, blah, blah .... I don't buy the narrative of everything hendging on fringe dweller voters, and I'm not convinced there's a "horse race", close in some places yeah, but who is it that benefits most by selling a political horse race? TV stations selling ads to pay their bills, that's who. Don't get me wrong, I do think the electorate can be fickle and there will be those who once they get to that voting booth will have certain urges overtake their reasoning ( race ? ) .... but I think for the most part the dye is cast. |

As I see it, if someone who lives in a state that was devastated when the U.S. auto industry was on the edge of going into extinction until THIS president wasted no time taking steps that helped saved your state's economy, let alone the U.S. economy, but you're gonna vote for Romney anyway .... you have a habitual, knee-jerk voting brand problem. If you ALWAYS vote republican no matter what, and ... I'll say that same thing for anyone who votes blindly, you're someone willing to bite the hand that feeds you. He once said he only needs 51% to win ....and he will do and say anything to win. Lie...cheat...steal. He is counting on a very stupid electorate.

61. Is Detroit News going to rescind their endorsement?
|
It was vulgar of them to endorse him in the first place. Now it should be obvious to everyone that he's not fit to lead this country.

I don't think that I have ever heard of a paper rescinding an endorsement, but it could happen.

63. Detroit Free Press: Romney camp silent on his Jeep-to-China gaffe
|
"Gaffe," my ass. That sleazeball knew EXACTLY what he was saying. And his sleazeball campaign staff knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they made an ad of it.

And these guys will not lie down.

73. That's the TRUTH..they know how propaganda works
|
Tell the big lie over and over and over.
MOST people never hear the retraction (if there is one), and by the time they have heard re-inforcing comments from media they "trust" and from their cohorts, they convince themselves that the lie is a fact.. republicans are BOLD and do not care about facts or nuance or any "gray area".. It works for them often enough (see house of reps..and all the dem-turned-rep governorship), to keep doing it. The prime example is the deification of Reagan (a mediocre president at best) |

|
he has no moral compass; his consistency with lying is beyond
any understanding ...he simply is mentally not okay..if his handler(s) are suggesting this behavior and rhetoric it is one thing..but the idea that he thinks it is okay is beyond comprehension... We are in dangerous waters if our President does not win this election... Thank you for posting these..this is what I have seen all day on my Twitter account....hopefully this will sink him for good! |

75. Still not nearly enough coverage about this atrocity.
|
It's a blatant lie. An absolute falsehood. A work of fiction pulled straight out of the Romney campaign's ass.
And when it's pointed out by the press I'm sure the next sentence is about how BOTH campaigns have degraded... etc. even though it's only one side making up this garbage. An abomination against decency and humanity. |

80. It's amazing that he would bring the topic up, after all the jobs he exported to China...
|
Did he ever get around to paying taxes on all the money he made by investing heavily in companies involved in exporting U.S. jobs to Communist China?
